Makital BO 6040

I don't know a lot about polisher but bought a makita BO 6040 DA. I was wondering if there was an adapter to use with this polisher to use smaller backing plates? It has a 6 inch backing plate with it, should I use the 6 1/2 foam pad size for that size plate?

I've read some about the edge adapter. Does the edge pads have to be used with this adapter. It looks to me like any pad that will work on a 9227 buffer would work with this adapter. Is this correct or am I just thinking wrong about the adapter.


I guess what I'm thinking is that any backing plate that would fit the 9227 would screw onto the adapter threads. I know it is designed to work with the edge backing plate and pad but would it work with other backing plates?

You can use any edge pad that uses that adapter 8,6,4 inch That machine I would only use thw 6 and 4 inch pads.

I think I found the reason only edge pads can be used with the adapter. The 5/8 threads are reversed of what the Makita 9227 are.
