I may be in the vast minority but I can't stand all the abbreviations that everybody around here uses for different products. It takes me too long to look up what in the world most people are talking about. I guess I'm just too new to this forum to get it all but I just wanted to voice my opinion. Happy detailing!!!

Only thing worse...is another thread about them! J/K rotflmao<---I think

Yea, I hear you. I'm like, what the heck is a WGDDDRPPOOG??? Just kidding, but the TLA's (three letter acronyms) here are killing me!

Plus, what I meant to say is + no matter how long you've been around here you can still get a new one. We are like "cave men" developing our own language.

+1 to the OP.

The good thing is that no one cares that if you ask them what UGGPD3+ means since everyone is helpful.

That other website has a thread called the detailers decoder ring with all the abbreviation etc etc. But TBH once you've been around for sometime you just get used to it yourself and realize what means what very quick.

I think the acronyms are good to use, but one I couldn't find is BOGO. Can someone please tell me what the heck that is? By context, I guess it's something to do with the store, or the first page or some sale? I don't know

TY AG!

Buy One Get One free. It's a section on the store and it updates every other Friday which happens to be this Friday.

BOGO on some WGDGPS would be sweet IMO, but I would rather see a BOGO on some OC2.0. The CQ would be cool too, but the OC lasts longer.

OPC is no doubt a good APC, but APC+ isn't bad either. However, YMMV. :D

I bet at least 75% of Autogeeker's understand every bit of that without looking. It just takes a bit of time. Once you are used to it, you won't want to type Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant again.

But shouldn't that be BOGOF?

But about all the abbreviations. Just type them out, and even provide a link to the product info page here on Autogeek. That should be enough info to satisfy anyone. Who cares if it takes a few seconds longer to post a reply.

BOGO just runs off the tongue smoother and easier than BOGOF

I can understand how you feel, because I felt the same when I first started visiting this site. I still come across a lot of acronyms that I can't decipher here after 10 months, and I apologize for using them without thinking about how it can frustrate new members. And I'm an "old school" type of person who believes in not doing this type of thing unnecessarily. Thanks for bringing me back on point.

Ahhhh, you're referring to the use of acronyms!

Acronyms are those time saving do-dads that create more questions, confusion, posts, and threads. Waste more time by looking them up and more typing just to explain what they are and why they're used at all. Acronyms are a second language and just because they may be used to mean one thing here they might have an entirely different meaning somewhere else. How many languages would you like to learn?

The military uses acronyms for "some" logical reasons although they're guilty of creating confusion there as well.

Technically I guess I'm guilty of using them but probably the most infrequent of any member. I will type BOGO or occasionally DA but that's about sums it up.

I've never once had a member reply to a post asking what does APC mean because I always type all purpose cleaner. It's clear, concise, easy to digest without creating allot of additional threads or posts. It certainly save time and avoids a ton of additional typing explaining my thoughts.

You decide. :dunno:

APC

  • All Purpose Cleaner
  • Armored personal Carrier
  • American Power Conversion
OPC

  • Optimum Power Clean
  • Objective Performance Criteria
  • Oklahoma Pork Council
Or we can continue to create yet another thread that wastes time but adds to our post total...
