Hey guys. Let me start off by saying that for as long as I have been detailing I really don't like doing boats. Mainly because most marine grade products while they get the job done, are not a joy to work with at all.
A while back at one of the Autogeek cars and coffee events Nick and I were chatting and I had brought up that my in-laws 339 Intrepid was due for a polish/wax and I was not looking forward to it. He said I should really try the Marine 31 line of products and that it would make my life a lot easier.
Fast forward a few months and I have a date set to work on the boat (this past weekend) so I decide to PM Nick about what he thought I should use etc etc. He was very helpful and his product recommendation was spot on! We decided on the Marine 31 Heavy Cut cleaner wax and for the interior the Marine 31 Mildew remover and Mildew Guard. He was also gracious enough to toss in some of there Marine 31 Boat wash/wax.
Here is the boat after taking it out of the water but before washing. Overall it was in good shape but needed a little love.

Marine 31 Boat wash and wax. This is a high quality boat wash and created a nice amount of suds and really got all of the loose grime off the gel coat. I used a standard 5gal bucket and a marine grade wash brush on the hull to help break up any loose grime. I will be honest that I did use a little mildew remover in the tougher areas. Worked like a charm.

Nice suds!!!

Before washing

After washing

After washing and drying. I pulled out the Marine 31 Heavy cut cleaner wax. Like most cleaner waxes this was designed for ease of use to removed light/moderate oxidation while leaving a protective barrier behind. Machines for the job were my Makita rotary buffer and my Flex 3401 polisher. Both equipped with 6.5 Lake Country Purple Foamed wool pads. My first test area on the hull was with the 3401 and while it worked ok I felt it best to switch to the Makita to knock out the job that much quicker while still getting the results. The Flex was used on the white top cap section and worked great.

Look carefully and you can see where the tape line was. Trust me when I say that it was a huge improvement.

One more 50/50 on the corner.

All finished

Final Thoughts on the Marine 31 Heavy Cut Cleaner. Great product that does what it says. Doesn't dry up quick or get burned to the gel coat and it really does wipe off easily. My father-in-law was absolutely thrilled as was I.
Onto the interior. The interior wasn't too bad at all. Really just needed a good cleaning. Most of the cleaning was done with a small hand brush, Marine 31 mildew remover, Marine 31 Boat wash.
The Marine 31 mildew remover while it does work great, it does seem to be made up of bleach/chlorine solution. As evidence by my bleached shirt and the smell! LOL!!! Just be cautious when using this product for this reason.

The mildew guard went on easy and I will be reporting back to see if any mildew does return and how long it protects for. It also seemed to give the vinyl a nice rich sheen to it. Especially on the darker stripes.

If the rest of the Marine 31 line works this good then I may start tackling more boats. Truly a great product line from what I can see so far.
Thanks.
