Re: Matt's C-Quartz Durability Update Thread

Not sure, it's never been polished :)

Re: Matt's C-Quartz Durability Update Thread

Been almost a month since I washed my truck, and the pictures below show it. Plenty of bugs, road grime, brake dust, etc.

I washed with 2-3oz of Optimum Car Wash and 3-4oz of Megs APC mixed in, with a boar's hair brush. Wheels got P21S Wheel Cleaner. Beading is still going very strong after almost 10 months. Pics and video below.

Before wash:

First time it's seen sprinkler water in the 10 months I've owned it...

Here's a video of me rinsing off the APC/wash mix.

Of course it started raining after I washed it, but the beading is there and so far nothing can stick to it - no bug residue, tree sap, brake dust, sprinkler water (this surprised me the most). Everything washes off fairly easily and the paint still looks brand new. Next update will be at the 1 year mark in April. :props:

Wow Matt I'm impressed especially since you have used APC to clean it too.

Yeah, I've been using APC almost as a regular thing now...I know I really shouldn't, but I've been doing so much driving and it gets so filthy in between washes. I'd rather let a stronger chemical do the work rather than scrub / mar the finish, and CQuartz is holding up to this without issue.

Matt, this ongoing review is great! It's also nice to see a product work so well for so long. I am interested in a long lasting sealant myself since I too don't have all the time in the world to detail my car and I drive about 500+ miles a week.

I am a little hesitant with the application since I have a black car (08 Acura TL) and will show any thick/thin spots more so than say your white truck. Is the application of CQuartz similar to that of opti-seal or opti-coat? I just ordered some opti-seal to try out a longer term sealant but want to wait to see the results before I move to a more permanent sealant like CQuartz or Opti-coat 2.0.

Similar to Opti Seal / Opti Coat, but not really. This stuff you actually buff off, and it buffs off quite easily. Opti Seal is intended to be wiped on and that's it - it dries on its own. Opti Coat does the same thing, but to a lesser degree IME. You'll have to come back with a towel and knock down any high spots before it cures. Both Opti Coat and CQuartz are awesome coatings. I applied Opti Coat to my mother's brand new Camry around the same time as CQuartz was applied to my truck last April and it's still holding up very well.

I find it much easier to spot these "high spots" when you have multiple light sources. I'll go over the whole car a couple times under bright fluorescents/halogens, then pull the car out in the sun and I'll still usually find some residue left behind. Just take your time, be thorough, and use a little common sense and you will be fine.

We know it it is not advertised to last thing long of a time, but how long did you end up getting protection from Cquartz?
