I havent been on AG in a while, since last fall probably. I did a detail for an old lady i work with, i do alot of oddjobs for her to earn some extra cash. I told her i also do detailing and she had me detail their old Mazda MX6. It is their baby, had it since new. Each of their kids had used it in college, and her husband (in his late 80s) still drives it to work each day. Its a fun little car being it is a 5speed and is turbocharged. Its quite fast!
The paint was extremely faded, they thought that they would need to get it repainted, or sell the car because it became such an eyesore. I prevented them from doing both!

Process:

Wash, poorboys spray and rinse on wheels plus green scotchbrite pad and steel wool.
Clay entire car
Polish with PC XMT3 and orange pad.
ran out of time, had to return car.
Cleaned interior, wiped down with woolite and water, vacuumed, cleaned glass.
A coat of Pinnacle Liquid Souveran was the final step.

and after!

nevermind my sister and the TP in the trees in this pic lol.

sorry no interior shots, it wasnt that dirty anyways.

125 bucks from this job baby! And i will be detailing her minivan this spring also! Plus she says her hairdresser wants a detail also, plus a neighbor. I cant wait for spring!

When i brought this car back to her house, her and her husband had the biggest smiles on their face. They couldnt believe how good of a job i did. They were in complete awe and their jaws were dropped to the ground. It made me feel really good. She actually had a few tears of joy from seeing her baby in such new condition! Things like this are what detailing is all about.

That's a pretty good job you have done! you turned it from pink and oxidized to red and glossy!

You done a awesome job, glad they was happy with your work....

Looks like the XMT 360 and the Souveran liquid did a number of that paint! Darn good job!

Looks good. I've been wanting to see what XMT360 would do for an oxidized paint job with out many other steps.

I didnt use 360. I used XMT #3 with a orange pad via PC.
Its a pretty strong combo. I ordered XMT#4 with a yellow pad to tackle deeper scratches though.

Wow, I sure misread that! I thought I say XMT 360. I was surprised that 360 could do so much. XMT 3 makes much more sense!

WOW, that is one heck of a before and after!

Almost looks like a different car. Nice job!

X2 here

My apologies. I'm new to using a PC and still looking at different compounds and polishes, can you tell?

Don't apologize, you did great work. The only person you should apologize is to the lady and that would because I know you know that you didn't produce your best work.

I would offer to her if she has time to allow you to finish up, polish away the marring, and smoothen it all out as a service for free if possible.

This is how you build relationships, profitable ones. This is an AMAZING referral that you'll get.

Now on to my technical question: Was this single stage paint? (did your pads turn red?)

you thought i was someone else haha, but yea i know what you mean. Im great friends with her (we work together) so i will probably end up finishing it this spring.

Yes it was single stage paint, i went through 3 pads because they kept on turning red and didnt work anymore. Its surprising how easy that it was to revive that paint! It may look like i did some magic, but really it is all due to XMT and the Porter Cable. :D

Really brought that red paint back to like. Isn't it nice when people appreciate your efforts?
