McCulloch Steamer, will I regret the purchase?

I bought one thinking it would be better than my shark and it was not very good I could put my hand right on the tip for almost 30 seconds before it felt hot. My shark I is so hot I have to wear rubber gloves. The hf model was more like a humidifier it looked like a lot of steam but it's not powerful and does not get hot enough for anything maybe should have exchanged it but I was just done with it at that point.

then yours was defective!

I personally own a Wagner 915 and bought it after researching both models extensively. It's great for small jobs and basic duty cleaning. For professional use it is nothing like a VX5000, but for home use and light duty DIY, it is great.

It has an aluminum tank which is a must have for durability. The heating time ranges from 10-15 minutes on average. And lasts enough to do an entire engine bay detail and the door jambs with some left over. I usually empty it by holding the trigger on for a few minutes straight. The only downside is the attachments are very home oriented and non can really be used for a car besides the soft black small bristle. A triangle 3" attachment is great for detailing interiors but sold separably.

I like my Wagner but it can't put out much steam for extended periods of time. Plus I can't seem to find a triangle attachment which is critical for interiors.

I just got mine in the mail today, it does not get hot at all. I can put my hand on the tip for a long period of time with nothing.

Called CS and they told me if it makes steam its working fine. She asked what i tried it on and i said an engine bay, she told me i need a powerwasher... I also tried it on the lawn mower around the oil cap, and garage floor that had some grease. Nothing.

Should I return it?

i used mine on a Honda Civic, took about 3 minutes to clean the seat with one of the soft brushes

I agree. Mine gets really hot. At times there's so much steam you can't see what your working on.

figured, i have a cheap $20 one for dress shirts, and that thing will burn you on the lowest setting. if it held more than 2-3oz of water and i could use it horizontally without being full thatd be great.

currently getting the run around from mcculloch and now harbor freight.

yes.

It takes about 10 mins to heat and the red light will go off. If you put your hand in front and pull trigger it will burn you, no exceptions unless it's broke

I have a different brand, but it usually takes 2 minutes of trigger time to get mine up to full steam temperature.

It has to heat all the parts along the hose, and in colder weather is worse. Let it heat completely, then pull for 1-2 minutes till its only steam, and no condensed water spitting out. See if that helps.

This makes to much sense though. it heats up to 200 degrees afterall. But the women from McCulloch told me that as long as there is steam its working correctly. O and "by the time the Steam travels from the machine out of the hose the temp will drop!"

after 20 mins HF said they will send me shipping label. Not sure if that means I have to pay or not for the shipping, but hell that is why the CS at AGO is second to none, always helpful, always there with answers.

Will update once I hear something, in the mean time back to my cheapo one.

So I exchanged it for another. Lucky for me I found a HF in the area that had one. Funny how the CS agent told me that it is not for automotive use, but guess what isle it was in?

Fired the new one up to test it, It is def. hotter than my last one, and only if my hand in less than 2 inches from it will it be hot. I have not been able to test it on my engine bay yet.

But when you guys empty it, are you just turning it upside down to drain out? Thought I read to be careful when filling not to spill the water.

yes i tip it to empty

when filling use the measuring cup and funnel and only fill with one full measuring cup and wont spill

I bought the mccolugh and it was decent but would not conquer the jobs without spending two hours just filling and heating it. I finally just went in debt and bought the VX 5000 two weeks ago. The money i saved already in chemicals, and cutting my labor down %20 percent i already made the $800.00 back in 4 cars.

yes filling it is a pain.. but I'm excellent at time management and will do something else for the 5 mins or so for it to be heated.. BTW big car that is messy 3 times to fill.. for the money and cannot be beat.

I bought the Werner 915 version and used it for a year. I liked the steamer and it worked great for some NASTY interiors, but it only had a couple of brush attachments. I just bought the McCulloch MC1375 Canister Steam System from the tropical forest site and it should arrive tomorrow. I will update everyone on how it works.

Here are my two BISSELL STEAM SHOT & HOMERIGHT, HOMERIGHT is nice just wish it came with a triangle brush.
