Dear Forum Members,
I was lucky enough to be selected to receive a bottle of this product from AG (thanks Nick!!!) for review. I will be using this on multiple vehicles and will update this post over time. In the meantime, the first use was on my daily driver, a 2001.5 VW Passat. This was purchased new by my wife years before we met. I do everything I can do keep it cosmetically perfect and mechanically sound as I plan to give it to my nephew next year for his first car. Now to the review.
The interior is a light grey, or at least it was when new. Over time the leather naturally darkened. For the first few years of the car's life, it didn't get the same amount of love it gets now, mainly because my wife purchased it before we met, and let's just say she doesn't share the same OCD obsession we all have for our cars. Since we met the car began to receive regular care. I used several different leather care products on it, some all-in-ones and some separate cleaners and protectants. As with all products, some were better than others but none we able to return the seats to the original natural grey color they once were; until now.
McKee's 37 All-in-One Leather Lotion is a thick, creamy lotion with a very strong smell of leather. If you like the smell of leather, this is the product for you. At first I thought it was too heavily scented, but as with most car care products, the next day it was muted. I applied a quarter sized amount to each section of the lower seat (so 4 in this case), I spread the product evenly with a microfiber applicator pad. Then a minute later I circled back around and started to work the product harder now that it had time to penetrate the dirt. I wiped clean with a microfiber towel and upon inspecting the towel and the seat, there was a noticeable amount of dirt removed. The seat was much closer on color to what the seats looked like when new. Notice in the picture how the seats are lighter in color. Once clean, I then applied another coat to the seats, this time with no agitation at all. I simply let the product sink in for conditioning purposes, and then wiped off any excess (there was hardly any - most soaked in to the leather).
The end result was a clean leather seat, and what I would call a satin-like finish. Not sticky, not glossy and with a very pronounced smell of leather. The before and after may not be as dramatic as you might expect, but bear in mind these seats are cleaned once a month so the starting point was relatively clean leather, and the product was able to do even better. Now that the seats are very close to the original color, I will use this product approx. 6 times per year to maintain the leather. Overall I would say I am quite happy with the results.
Again thank you Nick for the opportunity to try this new product.
