Meg 105/205 follow with?

Hello all,

I'm down to megs 105/205 for my 2010 black Sand Pearl toyota. Many members here say to follow with 85RD. Will I really benefit much from the extra polish of 85RD?

I was thinking of following that with WDGPS. What do you think?

I will be using a Megs G100 DA with yellow 2.0 soft buffs for the polishes. Will the black 2.0 work fr my LSP?

Do the 105/205....step back and look at the paint. if you really think it needs more gloss and feel like doing an extra hour of work...have at it.
 
I would say that whether or not you see any benefit from 85RD will depend upon how hard or soft the clear coat is that you're working on. On my personal car I don't see a difference between finishing with M205 or finishing with 85RD, but I have seen big differences on cars with softer clear.
 
Should you finish with 205 and a white pad? Or a finishing pad of some sort?
 
I usually finish with PO85RD with a blue of gold LLC pad. I love jeweling the paint with PO85RD.

On my personal car, I actually stopped at 105/205. I loved the results, and didn't think the extra time was worth it.
 
I did 105/205 followed by Klasse AIO on my green 96 Mazda pickup and it worked great.

Depends on how hard your clear is. White would be a good place to start.

He's right on here. Most of the time you won't see a difference, or not enough of one to justify the time.
 
I have done M105/205 on my Z, and then topped with M21 on one panel and souveran on another and I couldn't tell the difference. I guess the point I am making is that M105 followed by 205 finishes flawlessly. My guess is if you work those two properly, you should be able to finish with the lsp of your choice.
 
So what's a good pad choice for 105, 205 and a LSP? Orange, white, red??
 
LC Hydro tech pads cyan, tangerine, & crimson u gonna need at least 4 of each to get by don't use 1-2 pads for the whole vehicle the pads will loss there effectiveness unless u got a pad washer and can get right back to work

Toyota black is fairly soft so I would tend to use CCS red or gold with 85rd for best results. I've found on softer clearcoats 85rd finishes better than 205 before LSP

So for a full size truck 8 of each??

85rd also works well on "regular" paint. Even the super soft stuff!

On some finishes, 205 will leave some slight marring that does not occur with 85rd. I've been using 85rd long before it was available in the states and 205 since its release.

I agree. Actually, I haven't found a paint system that after the initial correction work and polishing steps have been performed that Menzerna PO85RD or by it's new name,

Menzerna Ultimate Finish (UF 4500) PO85RD

always finished down to a state of flawlessness assuming you're using the right pad and good technique. Everyone should include this product in their arsenal of products.

Scratch resistant clears still scratch and the polish doesn't know what it's being used on. As stated below by my good friend SpoiledMan aka Chris states below, Menzerna Ultimate Finish UF 4500 works great on any paint system.

I don't know of any "official" tests but I'll back up what everyone else has stated about the two, Meguiar's M205 is a Fine Cut Polish and Menzerna UF 4500 is an Ultra Fine Cut Polish. So yes, it's less aggressive.


On some finishes, 205 will leave some slight marring that does not occur with 85rd. I've been using 85rd long before it was available in the states and 205 since its release.

I agree 100% and what Chris posted is also my experience. Chris has been using UF 4500 longer than I have but I've been using M205 since it was a Lab Sample, in fact the first car I used the Lab Sample version on was with my good friend Nick Chapman when he was one of my VIP Guest Celebrity Detailers at Meguiar's and we Tag Teamed Nate Truman's 1966 Batmobile.

Here he is doing a test spot on the rear of the Batmobile, the chemist came over and let us use Lab Samples of M205 on the Batmobile and after we were done no one wanted to give back what was left of the samples it worked so well on the single stage paint on this car.
