They actually have about the same or similar cut. M02 was reformulated back in 2005 to meet the new VOC laws taking place in 2006 and the original formula for #2 that had been around for probably decades before I was born could not be made VOC compliant so it was completely changed, not tweaked.
Actually, with M105 or Ultimate Compound it's only aggressive as long as you work it, you can stop buffing at any time and thus stop abrading, it's actually quite safe. Don't think "rocks in a bottle" type technology, this is a SMAT product.

Taught hundreds of classes using M83 and M80 for Meguiar's at the Corporate Office from 2002 to 2009 but don't use it any longer. It works but it can leave micro-marring when used with a DA style polisher.
