Hi there! This is my first post from Louisville KY, Where spring is having an identity crisis and thinks its a tundran wnter. Aside from that, my car is holed up in my in-laws garage overnight waiting for my return to finish the pampering.
I recently got the Megs da mf system from our local mirror glaze store to correct my swirled out 2011 Mercury Milan Premier. The car wasn't trashed by any means, but the cc is hard as a rock and my griots polishes (2 and 3) with orange pad on gg6 wouldn't touch it. I know, I know. I've since spent a number of hours on AG and I see my first error. In stopping by the mirror glaze store for a couple mf towels he recommended I try the m02 with their burgundy pad for a bit more cut, so I did, to no avail. He really wanted me to stay away from the compounds like 105 being a beginner and I couldn't help but agree. His experience said "If it doesn't clear in first use, do it again and it'll get better." Made sense to me. After hours and hours with my GG6, M02, and burgundy and orange pads, paired with proper technique (courtesy of AG, Mike Phillips, and all the awesome contributors) I just wasn't seeing the result I need. DA MF time! So far the results are amazing! Exactly what's been touted on the videos and other reviews. Today I have the passenger side of the car to correct, d301 and prob a top of 845. (I assume this will bond ok?) My only issue is that my cutting discs are both coming apart at the Velcro backing. I didn't jump speed above approx. 4800 like I've read others having problems with and I used constant air pressure and Megs pad brush to clean after every single section, not panel. All I can assume is that the brush pressure may have freed the adhesive. I'm gonna pick up more discs this morning to get finished and send the other to Megs for replacement.(already called and they're gonna take care of me, maybe bad adhesive) Awesome customer service! I guess my question in the end is; Do the mf cutting discs work well in any other applications besides correction, and with other products? (Polishes in particular) I am not a shop, as if you couldn't tell, and really hope not to use the whole system for correction often at all unless a friend or family needs the help.
I did not take before pics, I got too antsy, type A personality. I will have some after pics this evening though! Definitely open to comments/criticism. I know 've got some coming for going right to that system, but something about its presentation and ease of use made me very comfortable!

The Meg's DA MF is a great system, contrary to the tone of your post, it IS a system designed for beginners; it's mission in life is to equip inexperienced operators at dealer and used car lots, etc. to be able to correct cars quickly and safely, rather than turning them loose with a rotary buffer. In other words, it's supposed to get the results of a rotary without the training and risk required with a rotary.

The newer pads are supposed to be better, it may be that your store has some of the first generation since they don't seem to have much turnover on the product, that may explain some of your delamination problem. Meg's also recommends their specific backing plate, but regardless you need to monitor how hot the pad is getting because that will kill the velcro on any pad if you overheat.

Yes, you can use other polishes with the MF pads, a lot of people like to use M105/205. Optimum makes a line of spray polishes which work great with MF pads.

I used the MF system for the first time a couple days ago, I had the same problem with the velco coming off. I called the wonderful people at meguiars and they of course will replace the pad. The gentleman on the phone told me to much product was being used and it was saturating the pad. Even though i was using compressed air to clean the pad it was getting into the foam and destroying the glue holding on the velcro. Like Setec said the 2nd generation of pads are supposed to be much better!

Even with the first gen pads, more often then not folks were over working the pads. A couple of panels use is fine before you should be switching to another. Could one pad be used for the entire vehicle? With out a doubt, but you risk lower cutting ability and the pad coming apart. I've had I think about 5 that came apart and all were used on one panel before they came off. Since the replacements I haven't had a single failure. I had more pads than I can count so using them for a single panel or two isn't a problem. Once the pad is primed, I've found two pea sized drops on the outer edge (since the product migrates to the center naturally) is what it likes best.

Anyone tried fixing the issue by applying some sort of adhesive of their own? If so, any luck with a particular type of glue? I have several MF cutting pads that are in need of "repair" and I just can't throw them away because they are basically brand new.

I've had a few that after having for over 5 months have started to come apart, those obviously are not going to be returned.

now if you have one that is still new like that, give Meguiars a call and they will fix it. Just as AGO's CS, they are on their game. :buffing:

I have been reimbursed for the cost of the pads, but I still have the separated ones, so I figured if someone has found a good adhesive to use then they are not worth throwing away. The pads are in great shape... just need to be re-attached to the velcro.

I went by the Mirror Glaze store to pick up a couple more after my post this morning and the owner just gave them to me! Told me not to ship the ones coming apart back, just bring them to the store next time I'm in the area! GREAT service from Paul Knopf! I think it may have been a saturation issue on top of being 1st gen pads. Compressed air and the pad brush used in tandem did a good job clearing product, but its gonna get to the foam core one way or the other. George at megs customer serv said I could try a super glue just to get by on the olds pads, but he didn't recommend it. Heat build up would potentially break down the adhesive. pics coming momentarily!

well, I stand corrected. Pics will be coming when they'll upload. I get the please wait and then the page resets. I'll try again after while

I use the mf system quite often. I havent experienced any of the pad problems others have mentioned. I have also found compressed air to be the superior choice when cleaning the discs. The discs will perform best when not saturated with product.

Meg's MF pad are great and yes they do come apart at times. I have tried to glue them back but did not work very well. the main reason they come apart is the pad is getting to hot. You can try a backing plate with holes in it. I do use 1-2 pads for a entire car most of the time and like some people have posted yes compressed air is best way to keep them clean while polishing. They where designed to cut fast and save time which they do very well. If your plan on using MF pads all the time my best suggestion is to buy a bunch of them. I do this for a living so I have a minimum of 10-15 on hand at all times. I only use foam pads to finish with.

Pure shine is spot on. I also use at least 2 discs when using the MF system. If you like the system and use it often its a great idea to have a bunch of these on hand.

Well apparently I'm computer illiterate this week as I can't get the pics attached. I did finally get a few of em uploaded, the rest said they uploaded but have disappeared into the intrawebs somewhere. They're in my member gallery if anybody would like to check them out!
