Just had dinner with my wife and as I walked her to her vehicle I couldnt help but notice flat matte tires on the front and shiny tires in the back!?!?!?!

Its a 2005 Honda Accord, front wheel drive .... I usually do a mini detail on em on the weekend and i know they look like that after a week but I never stopped to inspect a few days after application ...

This sound normal? Why only the front? Front wheel drive?

Does 180 highway miles kill the life expectancy of MEGS HD tire shine on a front wheel drive? Anything get better proven documented first hand results?

Me personally, my work/truck/rig gets detailed and tires dressed every third day so they never get a hint of fading!

I think the brake dust is dulling up the shine of the front wheels faster than the rear.

yep, i agree.

but i never really noticed such a degredation, front vs. rear, with optimum tire shine. maybe hyper dressing sits atop the rubber more and attracts the brake dust.

just went outside and the rims front and back are both relatively clean. Her car doesnt get the front wheel build up like some of the other cars i work on and i would understand if some of the brake dust accumulated onto the car but thats not the case ... I asked her just for fun if she lights up the tires as that was the only culprit HAHA!

....or maybe your wife is just an aggressive driver and flung all the dressing off the front wheels?

Nah, probably just brake dust. I just gave Optimum Opti-Bond tire gel a try and so far it's held up better than anything else I've used in winter.

as mentioned.. i do not care for HD on tires, doesn't last and even diluted at 1:1 it attracts dust and i've experienced sling as well...

Are there any tire dressings that don't attract dust?

i'm currently using fx tire shine and it's attraction to dust is much less than HD and lasts longer too. no worries on getting more bang for the buck with HD, the fx comes in a bottle with a trigger sprayer and only a few pulls will dress a tire. one bottle (with a trigger sprayer for that matter) will last a loooong time... :props:

I have noticed that on some vehicles that the front tires lose their shine faster then the back tires and I think it's from the added weight up front that actually the sidewalls are flexing more and creating more microscopic hills and valleys eventually wearing the product out faster. If that makes any sense??

Mothers tire dressings are way under rated. FX for a little glossier look (often available otc) reflections for a matte look (autogeek carries it)
on nice thing is after the gloss washes off, they both still have a really nice dark black look (no browning).

yeah, you're right about being under-rated for sure. the gloss from fx is not a biggie for me, it wears tones down a little as you drive some...

I think that makes perfect sense

Is HD durable under the hood? Never tried it there.

if the bay and its components are cleaned, i find it to be somewhat durable. and i use it at 4:1 under there (same as wells). it's not what i'd use if i was hand applying with precision, as i'd probably use optimum tire shine or 1Z stick, both are extremely durable, but for a general mist spray dressing that doesn't look strange if it gets on metal/paint and is super easy to use...i love it.

i find that it tends to attract light road dust, etc. if the concentration is higher.

4:1 makes everything look new, not dressed.

An over dressed engine makes for one heck of a mess 6 months later.

yep. esp silicone dressings, ugh. like car dealerships....

to add the obvious, water based normally will not necessarily last long enough to cause much of a mess, and during their time there will hopefully feed or at least stave off degredation until the next application of a water based dressing.
