Megs NXT and Ultimate?

To change the subject just a bit, but along the same line.....

Griot's has it's own display in Advance these days but all three stores I go to tell me nobody buys the stuff! They are always amazed when I go in and pickup an online order (20% off) that has Griot's stuff. Go figure....

BTW; (I'm gonna' keep a watch on it and see how long it takes them to close it all out and then load up!)

We dont have an Advance Auto here in the west coast. As much as I'm a fan of Griots GG6, I dont like any of their wax or sealants, or their buffing pads. I like some of their chemicals like their Paint Prep, Pre-Wax clenser & leather cleaner just to name a few.

Yeah, they don't have the full line, it's like 26 sku's MF towels, wash muff, soap, speed shine, wheel cleaner, clay, some waxes (not all), one step sealant, leather cleaner, and two or three items in gallons. It's all on a free standing display all by itself which tells me it'll likely disappear all at once when it goes.

I only noticed it after I bought the GG6 actually, but picked up more different items from AG than AA. (Like the regular sealant vs the aio as well as the full 4 step polish kit.)

You mentioned their pads, I was thinking about trying them perhaps, but then again Megs would feel more at home in my cabinet. ;)

I would get some of their chemicals, but hey if they have their pads too, give them a shot but dont expect them to last or perform as good as Megs.

Advance Auto in my area doesn't have a single Griot's item. Must be a regional thing???

Yeah I've tried some and like what I've seen so far. Doesn't have the fancy pretty smells of Megs and boutique stuff. Plus their sprayers get raves so I'll pick up a couple bottles both to try, and to have the sprayers for later. ;)

That's interesting indeed. The way it's setup as a 'stand alone' display, (IE not merchandising out linear shelf space), has felt like a test market thing. It's maybe a 3' wide display (thinking 4 shelves) so if they *did* try to work it in it'd not be easy. Problem is, I don't think they are always using the prime location for it. Like 1 of my stores you have to hunt for the darned thing. Specialized items like that need to be at the front door AND the employees need to know how to push the product.

Their typical customer isn't the guy that is gonna' buy $16.99 3-packs of MF towels. Whether we want to admit it or not, detailing obsession and especially microfiber disease puts us in the minority.

I love using my ultimate paste wax. So easy to use, gives great hydrophobic properties and provides an amazing shine. I can't speak for durability because I always use the x-press synthetic spray wax after every wash.

+1 I do the same thing. UPW is easy to use, good durability and price, nice smell and great shine. Put it on thin, let it dry to a nice haze and wipe off. 2 coats for even coverage.

My local store here in Houston had their own display that is always fully stocked... It very well may be a regional thing, who knows.

Chase, next time you're in there ask them if they are selling any of it?

I had one of their guys ask me to detail his cars, (86 Chevy low-rider and 2012 Challenger I think) because I bought the Meg's twins there, and picked up a few Griot's items.

He was like "You're the only person I've ever seen that buys that stuff". That is what lead me to ask the other stores btw. :dunno:

You guys neet to jump on those Griot's products will you can. More than likely they will phase them out. My parts store used to carry Surf City Garage products in a stand alone display as well. No one ever bought their products.

A. They were alot pricier than others
B. No one knew about them.

Customers are more likely to buy the more common household names like Megs, Mothers, Eagle One, Turtle Wax, Armorall.

Its all about business, and if a product isnt selling it doesnt mean that it isnt good. Although, if your not selling your loosing money.

I'll buy from them if I get into a bind, but AG is several dollars cheaper.

I actually need to get away from this forum and AG's website... You people keep making me spend money that I don't have! This hobby (which keeps me sane and gets my attention off of my real job on days off) is getting a little bit expensive. I keep looking for reasons to buy new stuff.

On a funnier note.. Today, my girlfriend buffed her nails with my PC while I was in between panels. Lol I had 845 on the pad and I didn't say a word.

Problem with the Griots stuff is its not all bubba proof. In fact the most won't work well unless you have nice paint. That's the beauty of Megs stuff, sorta works on anything. They'll probably get lots of returns and then end up getting rid of the stuff. Even so, its well played effort on Griots part, I know I wouldn't have tried so many things if they weren't on the shelf at AA.

IMO griots products ARE designed and market it towards the retired American with a garage queen muscle car or other car with perfect or near perfect paint.

I definitely agree with that!

I have never tried them but even my non-detailing friends have "heard" that Griot's is "high-end".

But like you, CM8 6MT, I am sticking back to the "basics" aka Megs 21 and 26. So easy to apply and price is hard to beat as well.

Yes M21 is a great sealant. As far as M26, you just cant beat its durability/looks for the price. There are better looking carnuba waxes out there, DoDo for example.

Although M21 looks AND lasts just as good as other "high end" sealants. I proved this during my review of M21.

RE Griot's prices at AA.... If you use online buying and store pickup they are a lot cheaper. Its easy to do 20% off codes. ;)

On the need to get away from AG...... :iagree:
My wife has hammered me hard about this darned place. Just last night however I showed her the prices of a typical 3~4 step detail, starting at $700 for a local guy and showed her how much she was *saving* for me to keep doing this insanity. Especially as I can spend a week working on something that a pro would do in 2~3 days that would cost well over a grand! :D (which means I need to spend more!)

Buffed her nails.... now thats funny! :)

Perhaps, although thier detailing compounds alone with 4 succinct levels can provide a fair amount of cut.

Considering the offerings go from shoes, to tools, to oil change supplies, detailing supplies, tool boxes, wall racks, and just about anything you'd need to outfit a modern garage including shirts and hats I'd say they go quite a bit farther. ;)
