I've been a megs purist mostly because the cost vs performance ratio. I love that most stuff can be diluted. But Im starting to get irritated with their compounds and polishes due to dusting. But I am wanting to try to move to another line even if to just to broaden my horizons I was wondering if any one had some advice. Keeping cost in mind.. I'm real real tight on cash at the moment.

I hear a lot about CG cleaners. And even their polishes and compounds. But seeing Mike's videos with WG I like the way they seem to turn out.. so what line of chemicals should I consider and what line of compounds, polishes, &/or waxes should I consider..
Let me tell u what I am needing..
Apc
Wheel cleaner? (If apc isn't good enough)
Dressing
compound (something really aggressive & something mediumly aggressive)
Polish
Wax &/or sealer
Spray wax (ease of use)
Aio (I'm liking d151)
vinyl and/leather cleaner
Leather/vinyl conditioner
Carpet cleaner

The Wolfgang twins as well as the Blackfire Duo are made by Menzerna. Thats where I would start for compounds and polishes.

For heavy compounding FG400.

Apc grime reaper cg
Wheels diablo gel
Spray wax optimum or pinnacle
Upholstery folex home depot
Compound 101 if not megs menz fg400 or
Polish pf2500 or 4000.
Cg polishes and compounds suck ballz
Dressing I like carpro perl can be diluted for exterior, interior, engine, tires etc

Aio (I'm liking d151)

I answered from personal experience (still gaining some myself). I've tried various companies (CG, PB, OPT, etc.) and I say this with experience bias, I am an absolute HUGE fan of PBMG (Palm Beach Motoring Group) products (Pinnacle, Wolfgang, Blackfire, Detailer's). To me, personally, they really aren't cost ineffective. Buy the gallon items and you'll be set!

I take the best price vrs performance from each line. I don't need a bunch of matching bottles to look nice on the shelf.

WC: CG Sticky. Dilutable

APC: CG Grime Reaper or Duragloss. Both dilute able.

Polishes: Wolfgang, Optimum, Menz.

Spray Wax: Flitz, Hydro, 1Z, V7, Wolfgang, Griots... too many good ones.

Carwash: CGs for sure. Honeydew and CW&G.

Carpet: Folex or APC as above

Sealant: BF or WG. WG Deep Gloss Liquid Seal adds tons of gloss over the regular sealant.

Wax: Fuzion. Very glossy and easy to use. Also liking NaviWax Ultimate. Similar to Fuzion, but hides defects, lasts 6 mos, and beads insanely.

Dressing: throw a dart. None of them last me past the first rain. Right now is say Solution Finish. Conventional dressings: Adams Super VRT or Prima Infinity.

Interior: UIG+. You can seal anything and everything inside the car and give it a nice appearance. Plastic, vinyl, and leather. You name it. On leather I prefer CarPro Fabric and Leather.

I'm sorry but what does WC mean?
Also about the WG twins. How would u rate them? As far as aggressiveness would it be good for heavy duty compounding?

You should never limit your self to one product cause ever car and paint are not the same. The only way I would ever just use one product line is if they where paying me.

OK so I just checked out bogo and staying on topic with wanting to try new products looks like some OK stuff on there.. what should I get? Ultima pre wax, ultima scratch remover? Poor boys polish? How's these products for some one wanting to get more than just megs on their shelf?

Well said.

Well said.

I'm trying to not limit my self... I'm trying to broaden my arsenal if anything...
That's why I am asking what are some other good ones..
.like the poor boys or ultima that's on bogo right now.. but I don't know anything but megs so before I buy I'd like some input. What's up with the things on bogo? Any good? Should I get anything?

Akj, I think first you need to broaden your skill range first before you "blame" Meguiars products from dusting LOL. The only product that dusts for me is 105, and never again will I use that product unless absolutely necessary.

Its not the product that makes or breaks a detailer, its the talent, skill & dedication put into the project at hand.

O no doubt! I agree. 100% really what u want to do more than anything is just have more than. Megs products in the shelf.. I love megs they've worked great for me for a long time. I just want to try others.

But my BIG QUESTION now is BOGO!! They have pb and ultima polishes and I'd like to know if with it being on bogo are they decent polishes? Or should I just consider other lines?
ANYONE!!??

So does anyone have any reviews they'd like to give on any items on bogo?

WC: Wheel Cleaner.

Wolfgand twins aren't the most aggressive, but fairly so. TSR on a yellow pad can take care of a lot, finishes well, and doesn't dust hardly at all. Leaves no hazing I can see, even though I always follow it up. I don't use MF pads, but sure they work great as well.

If I need a compound (rarely) I use Optimum. Works well.

I agree- look at Mike Phillips work, I looks great no matter what products he uses.

+1000. FG400 has to be the most impressive product I've used to date.

From time to time.... I'd say WITHOUT A DOUBT. ;) (Without even looking at what's on BOGO now btw.) What I'm saying is YES they put good stuff on BOGO, but my goodness does it take a while to gather up a line of new stuff when it's scattered around like it is. I'd like to see a run like compound, polish, sealant, wax, even perhaps QD from a single line go on BOGO all at once. :dunno:

:iagree: but I do understand wanting to broaden ones horizons. :xyxthumbs:

Back to akj, some of the stuff like say APC.... honestly... I wouldn't change from Megs unless it's not working for ya'. Nice to have APC+ around at the very least, but APC by itself is a good thing.

Megs is like your favorite chair. It's comfortable, makes you feel good, relaxes you, has been broken in well, and is just plain nice to have around. Starting over.... with a COMPLETELY NEW learning curve on 2, 3, 4 different products just makes the job harder. Much easier to perfect the process on products you already know, on as many paint surfaces you can than switching mid-stream just to 'try' something else.

Sorta' the old saying about the grass being greener comes into play here. (Only to find out the grass is bitter on the other side of the fence.)

Saying that though..... What I think is a GOOD THING, (at some point) is taking the time to learn another complete line with compounds, polishes, LSP's, sealant and such

What I would like to try versus what makes fiscal sense is a TOTALLY different matter. I mean were it up to me and I had unlimited funding I'd grab a full line of some esoteric product. But in the real world you need something that is cost effective.

Take Duragloss for instance, many have tried it, many like it, and it's affordable. (I was only recently turned on to some from dad07 (D151 AW) and I love it!) I'd stayed away from it for YEARS because I felt it was too cheap at what, $7.99 a bottle. Now I'm ordering a gallon! The only thing I'd tried before was the soap and that was a long time ago, before I had a foam gun or 2 bucket method even. I see perhaps expanding my look into DG products if for no other reason than to (affordably) satisfy my own curiosity. ;)

On one end, I'd love to see Menzerna on my shelves, especially as I've got customers with BMW's that would love to flock to that stuff! You know how they feel about German cars, German products.... blah blah blah.

Another line I'd like to have a bunch of stuff to try would be Blackfire, perhaps over WG, but WG would be CHEAPER than Menzerna and from what we're told is basically the same stuff. ;)

So already here I'm seeing maybe WG taking the place of Menzerna, OK I can live with that. Then we have BF that could perhaps be the higher priced stuff. :dunno:

Choose to move to specialty products and you might look at CarPro and Optimum. I started the CarPro stuff with IRONX, (which I LOVE btw) then kept adding stuff. TARX is pretty darned schweet! PERL, is even better... which I also LOVE because it's so flexible and can dilute to any number of different mixes. Fantastic having the 16oz spray bottles from them that are uber handy when mixing PERL too!

Before I'd go off and go crazy ordering a bunch of stuff just to try. Read the thread about the most over hyped stuff, and take notes there. Lots of guys have bit the bullet to try stuff (like you're wanting to do) only to find out it wasn't what they thought it was going to be. Jus' sayin'..... :dunno:

At the end of the day one isn't all that different than another. Sure there are some 'keepers' here and there, but say when you're compounding, if you can work a DA, know one pad from another, and have decent method to your madness it's likely the end result wouldn't be any different with product "A" or product "B". :dunno:

Very very well said.. THANKS!! I do love my favorite chair (megs) but would just like to see what other products do and how they stand next to megs.. I think I'm gonna stick with megs apc and aio d151 but I think I'm gonna give menz fg400 a try..

Any recommendations on a good wax? Not sealer but a carnuba wax?
