Mike, I was definitely not paying attention yesterday when I "waxed" my 2013 Maxima with Meg's Interior detailer. All exterior surfaces, jambs, wheels were coated. I really thought that I was using Meg's spray wax. Must be the black bottle. I've done some real bone head things to a cars finish but this takes the cake. The funny things is it behaves a lot like spray was when applying it to painted surfaces. And the paint looks great. What an awful feeling though.

I emailed Meg's customer service to get their opinion but what would you do? Wash it off immediately? leave it on until next wash? Apply Spray wax over it? Appreciate your prompt response (or any of the other members as well).
Thanks

lol, I almost did this at Meguiar's TNOG!
I hate that they made the same bottle for two very different products.
QID isn't a strong cleaner at all, you paint should be fine. Maybe do an IPA wipe down and then wax, with Spray Wax this time.

I've seen those black bottles. I always thought they look pretty cool. I didn't know they had 2 different bottles. I always assumed they were the same bottle lol.

Thanks, Mike. BTW, what does "IPA" stand for..."Maybe do an IPA wipe down and then wax..."

isopropanol alcohol

:welcome:...to AGO.

-An interesting first post.
-What did the good folks over at Meguiar's say regarding your inadvertent
use of their Quik Interior Detailer on your vehicle's paint?

From G136's MSDS:

Section 3 - COMPOSITION / INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS
....................NAME..............................CAS#......................%
  • isopropanol..................................67-63-0.................1-5
  • dipropylene glycol
    monomethyl ether acetate..........88917-22-0................1-5
  • conditioners............................trade secret.................<5
  • ingredients determined not
    to be hazardous............................[Mfr]...................80-95

-I don't see anything there that'll wreak havoc on the paint.
-But it appears that you'll need to apply an LSP (wax/sealant)
in order to provide the paint with a protective film-layer.

BTW:
It has IPA in it.

Our wipe with a quick Detailer.

Bob, luckily I caught myself as I was explaining XPress wax to someone. I showed him the bottle and he said "What? Quick interior?" that's when I actually read the bottle and discovered the black bottles.
With these black bottles I would put some color tape on it so you don't do it again

Thanks, Mike. That helps to make me feel less unintelligent :) Is there a product that contains IPA that I can use to strip off the QID?

Bob, no response from the folks at Megs yet. Just to clarify, are you suggesting that I apply a wax/sealant over the car as it stands now with the QID on it or strip off the QID first and then wax it?

You guys might find this interesting but the QID seemed to remove light contaminants more effectively then a conventional wax. And it seems to a good job filling in the swirls too...my wife thinks its never looked better!

Mike? This is Mario, np.
you could probably just wax right over it but to be safe do an 20%IPAwipe down.
You didn't do any harm to your paint. Now remove the QID then wax.

Sorry Mario. IPA right out of the bottle? What's if there's a little dust on the paint - hasn't been driven, just sitting in the garage...thanks again

If the car is dusty, just use a quick detailer and then your spray wax. Your paint is a lot more rugged than the interior surfaces you use QID on, you didn't damage anything and there is no need to go out of your way to remove the QID other than the QD wipedown I suggested for the dust, I mean, that's all QID is, is a quick detailer.

I'd try a "test spot" with the wax/sealant before washing the entire vehicle---Got any ONR or similar rinseless/waterless product?

When "The Good Wife" gets home from work, I'm going to give her Jeep a "QID-test spot" just for p**ps & giggles.
Hope she also thinks along the same lines as your Good Wife!!

NOTE:
You may have just discovered: THE "paint cleaner"...that has previously alluded humankind! Im the MAN

As far as I know all of Meg's products from the consumer line comes in those black bottles. I love them but you do have to look at the sticker ;)
