Meguairs non-acid wheel cleaner

At 2:1 mix, I like it a lot, but I do agree with Hammer, it's not the strongest cleaner I have used. On really bad wheels, I like Meg's Hot Rims Wheel & Tire Cleaner for getting the stubborn brake dust and tire blooming off without major effort.

D143 is the same stuff as hot rims, just different concentration obviously and you need a foaming sprayer for the same effect.

I actually used it 4:1 and it still worked really well, albeit on not super dirty wheels and tires. I have ironx for the nasty ones, but it def works well.

First bottle leaked all over so this next mix I'll try 2:1 and try it on some dirtier wheels and tires.

I use a foaming sprayer with both. I would be very surprised if they were exactly the same, at least not in the recommended 2:1 mix ratio for D143. Maybe in a different concentration it's similar, but not so far as I have been using it. A very noticeable difference in just the dwell removal of wheel and tire contaminants. HR is more aggressive than a 2:1 D143.

Will this stuff strip wax/sealant off your wheels?

How about a wheel coating would it strip that?

Oh for sure. I'm not disputing that at 2:1 or lighter they don't work the same. But I'd bet 1:1 or even a little stronger and it'd be a different story.

I too was chasing the nice brown foamy look of removing tire contaminants that hr has but at $8 a bottle vs 30 per gallon it's hard to beat 143

I made an effort to mix up a bottle last night at 1:1 to try on the next project that rolls through the shop. I'm anxious to see how it works in a head to head of the very colorless Hot Rims W&T cleaner.

I mixed up a batch much stronger than the first one and man did it work like a charm. I went somewhere around 1.5:1 and works every bit as good as hot rims or better.

I definitely think it's strip wax but idk if it'd get rid of a coating.

Meguiars Non Acid Wheel & Tire Cleaner is absolutely a top notch product. It has awesome performance at an amazing price. Want to make it better? Use a pressurized sprayer like what you can get from the fertilizer section at Lowes/Home Depot. It foams a bit and you save your wrist from all the spraying.

At 1:1 do you see the tires getting cleaner vs 2:1? I've only used d143 at 2:1.

I've used it many times at both 1:1 and 2:1. IME there's absolutely no difference that I could ever tell and I quit wasting product a long time ago... I only use it at 2:1 these days and it works great.

Can anyone compare it to Flash Brown Royal? It's one of the only non-AG products that I use. I've been going through about 16oz of [diluted] product every time I do wheels/tires.

When it comes to cleaning worse than average/caked wheels there's almost no comparison, BR walks all over D143.

My advice: Don't use BR to clean the tires, I tried that once and felt like cringing at how much product I was wasting. If I use my BR I only use it for the wheels and use D143 for the tires.

I have been using this since I began detailing years ago. I love this product, and still maintain my vehicle with it. I've only always used the Megs Hot Rims Wheel and Tire Cleaner, because I don't need it that often, because I use WETS on my Tires and Wheels.

Not sure how the D143 is.

IMHO:
Without the proper PPE...it's very
unhealthy (not good) to ever use
WB---even for its original, and
intended, purpose.

With that being said:
You can rest assured that...unless you
are Certified---having received formal
HF-training---and have access to (and
will actually use) the proper PPE...then
there'll be no recommendations forth-
coming from me to use WB anywhere,
anytime, or on anything.

Just read up on this. Holy crap! Biflouride (and hydrofluoric acid) are very bad stuff to have around. The issue with them is that the real damage they are causing is not readily apparent. You couldn't pay me to use WB. I have no issue with acid wheel cleaners necessarily. HF and biflouride are a completely different thing.

Kudos to Megs for having MSDS sheets available. I hope WB containers are covered with warnings.

Thanks for the warnings so which STRONG NON ACID cleaner do you recommend?

I'm probably the wrong person to ask for a recommendation. In another recent post Mike said he thought the Sonax cleaners were safe. Many here seem to like D143. Given that I think those would both be good choices. Per MSDS sheets Sonax pH is between 7-8.5 and D143 pH is 13.5. So I kind of get Mike's point on "safe" for your wheels, or at least giving people peace of mind.

I'm using my rinseless wash for maintenance cleaning and Duragloss wheel cleaner as needed. The DG is acidic (pH 2-3) and uses oxalic acid, which is an iron remover. Oxalic is considered a weak acid I consider it safe. I occasionally use a color changing iron remover for visual assurance that my wheels aren't contaminated. (Acids seem to be concerning to people. Consider that lemon juice has a pH of ~2. pH alone is not necessarily an indicator of toxicity or potential to harm paint.)

Hard not to follow the recommendations from Mike, so I'll likely back to Sonax or McKee's once my DG is gone. One of the pros here used the McKee's recently on a Porsche detail. My approach is to generally do whatever Mike recommends and also take tips from the other highly respected people here. And then also consider that we're lucky enough to have many good products available to us, so there's no single right answer.

Two different products entirely.

I use D143 2:1 its great for maintaining wheels and tires. If trashed, you may want to look for something else.

If I encounter tires that are really bad, I'll do them twice with a stiff scrub brush @ 2 water:1 NA Wheel cleaner, works great for me.
