Meguiar’s Hybrid Paint Coating-Discontinued?

What's a reasonable shelf life to expect?

...in a normal little coating bottle once you've opened it and started to use it, you've started a timer. It is going to have a shelf life and it's usually 30 to 90 days where it starts to cure inside the bottle because its been exposed to the air, and that moisture cure process begins.

You don't have that with an aerosol can. Huge advantage.

It's gonna last you years, that you could keep this and do touch-ups down the road and not have to worry about it curing in your can.

Sounds like more of a wax than a true coating. Probably decent for an auto parts store product.

You guys are getting beaten to a pulp with prices. Are the Korean and Japanese products cheaper and more available in your neck of the woods?

Remember $100 Aus is about $65-70 USD. Still high though.

In many instances, the likes of Gyeon and Carpro are undercutting Meguiar's on like-for-like products.

The local Megs distributor is smoking crack as far as I'm concerned.

That's not me dissing the Meguiar's brand, they have good product, but it's simply not the value for money brand they are for you guys in the US. The same applies to Adam's.

Yeah but in some cases the bigger brands have products that perform as well or outperform smaller brands like Owners Pride, Obsessed and DIY you are getting products from big blenders.

Meguiars blends there own and the company that owns B&B blending owns Adam’s.

In the case of HPC it is more of a competitor of CanCoat with some here preferring it. For the yearly polisher who will want to reapply LSP.

It does suck to pay a premium for brands much cheaper else where. We pay basically double for Bilt Hamber and my $32 bottle of KC FSE cost $13 USD in the UK.

But although basic and inexpensive the perform so worth it I guess.

You probably haven't watched any of the HPC videos then have you? Some common myths are debunked and misconceptions are cleared up about this product. One can really unpack a lot of info by simply getting it from the direct source.

One of which is that HPC is "not a true coating". While this may be true in a traditional sense (small bottle of liquid, hardens when dried, has "ceramic" in its description"), it is mostly FALSE factually speaking.

I recommend these videos to anyone who wants to familiarize themselves with what HPC really is and what is isn't...

I plan to try it out this weekend and may pick up a few kits to hold onto if it goes well. MK was impressed with them on wheels and I'm interested in seeing how well it performs on them. As well as how recoating goes without a lot of prep. I've tried a lot coatings on wheels and it's pretty lackluster for the effort.

For me personally, I've found that nothing lasts long on wheels. Even popular coatings like Carpro and Gyeon (which I've used). HPC was no different either in my experience.

I figured. How long did it hold up? Seems pretty easy to apply and hard to get high spots which would be a plus for recoating more intricate wheels more often.

That's why I hit my wheels every wash with a spray and rinse type product.

Two coats of FK1000p will last a midwestern winter. Two more in the spring will last all summer.

Few months maybe. Honestly I didn't really track it but I do know that they didn't survive the cold winter months being exposed to prolonged standing salt/dirt.

Yep. This is exactly what I do now for every wash during the spring/summer/fall months. Except I apply it (Armor All Ceramic Wash) undiluted by hand with a mitt, then rinse off. Much better adhesion, much better beading and lasts slightly longer in between extended wash periods. I've seen it still bead very good at 3 weeks without cleaning. Never observed longer than that because my vehicles get cleaned on weekly or bi-weekly intervals to which the wheels get a new fresh coat of the ceramic wipe n rinse.

I'm hoping it will last ~6 months here in Southern California. I'd be okay with a bi-annual deep clean and recoat, especially if I can approach it like a spray on wipe off product.

I've tried these on some cars that get casually detailed in the past but never went back to them after more durable spray on LSPs came out. This is probably the best use of that type of product I never really thought of . What are you using?

This is a bummer, I really enjoyed using this product. It was so easy to apply and there was zero fiddling with high spots. Mines still going strong at 8 months and the cars outside 24/7.

Can anyone recommend an alternative coating that's equally hassle free and effective?
