Meguiar's backing plate compatibility

I bought the Meguiars G110v2 micro fiber system and it is mentioned that the included backing plates are very specific to their MF pads. It is said not to use other backing plates as the heat build up is so great that the two components may fuse together.
My question is, is the opposite also true? Can I use other pads MF or foam from other suppliers with the Meguiars backing plates?
 
Backing plates are manufactured to be most compatible with the pads they manufacture, but you can use other pads with other backing plates. If anything the most you will see is faster pad deterioration and more heat build up. I'm sure everyone here will have more informed inputs than I though.
 
I'd say if it's foam, then it's not an issue. But if it's another brand of MF pad, then it may or may not be a problem, due to the heat generated by MF pads.
 
Sorry to say that about a Meg's product, but this backing plate that comes with 5" MF kit is the worst I've used.

I was sold by the recommendation to use Meg's plate with their MF (not other brand), ended up with a bad backing plate I can't trust and barely use.

It does not hold MF discs making you to stop and re-center pad even while polishing. To 'help' it not working, MF discs comes with some fancy design on their back instead of a full side of powerful velcro to HOLD the pad where it should be.

Incredible, I also had heating and melting using MF FINISHING disc on speed 4 to wax a car with D301 and the W67 plate provided. The melting have not damaged permanently pad or plate, but it happened and the marks are there. No damage to paint or anything, just the back of pad and face of backing plate.

Now I have to use my MF discs with Meg's 6" (W68) plate that comes with Meg's DA, it's an exact match, so one have to beware not having security margin. However, velcro hold pad centered much better.

Now I have 8-10 MF discs that I don't use because plate provided is bad.

I can't recommend other because I haven't used LC 5" plate, but if you can, avoid Meg's plate that comes with kit at all costs.

It has 2 reviews saying what I'm saying. I don't blindly trust reviews since that may be caused by user error, but in this case, I've faced it personally.

If I could go back in time, I would never ordered this plate.

Again, really sorry about meg's this time, I like, use and support their brand.

Try to search for an alternative or you'll be one more with problems regarding this backing plate.

I have had no issues with the meg's backing plate with their MF pads as well as lake country foam pads.
 
Too bad to hear the above statement, mine W67 velcro (came with 5" MF kit) does not stick to pads, also I had my first (and only) pad flying over the room using this plate... that was ridiculous, but happened.

What I can state is that a flying pad will always land with face down over the dirtiest part of the room. :(

Maybe I have a bad plate?

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Sounds like a defective BP plate.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question but what about using the 3" MF pads for headlight restoration? If this is ok to use should I use the cutting pad or finishing?
 
Thanks for feedback. Apart from getting problems, I was able to do some work using MF discs with the plate supported.

Sure it's usable, but velcro does not hold pad in place the way it should be, like LC plates, or even Meg's w68 plate, Flex 3401 plate and LC plates for flex. I mean, w67 is the worst backing plate I've used, but it's still usable.

Just don't like to use what barely works, I like to use what works, and works great, flawless.

I even have a link from january of a work I did with it, w67 and MF discs, system as a whole worked as expected:

You can also use MF for cutting and foam for finishing, every car will be different. I've used MF finishing + D301 many times as well as AIO.

But does not hold pad in place like other backing plates.
