Last week, I had the opportunity to detail a 2004 Mustang GT. Unfortunately, I was unable to take as many pictures as I would have liked because of time constraints, but I still managed to take some decent shots even with the iPhone camera.

Plan of Action

- I really wanted to get a "base" time to see how long it would take just using the system.

Before Shots - As received from the customer

- Car looks clean from a distance, but we'll see later that the paint if full of imperfections and has a lack of "pop" to it.

- Front bumper and hood scoop were in bad shape. There wasn't much I could do.

- Swirls on the roof

Progress

- The clay bar "bled" a lot. I'm unsure if this is normal with the more coarse clay bars, but it was a little annoying to clean up. :)

- If you can tell from the crappy picture, I taped off a section of the hood. Top half (front) of the hood remained untouched, while the bottom (back) of the hood had compound applied.

- Here is a better picture of the imperfections I was referencing early. The car was covered with these pesky swirl marks.

- Same swirls, different lighting

- Compound applied. Similar results were achieved throughout the entire vehicle. Most swirls were removed, and some deeper scratches remained. Since time was an issue, I didn't address the deeper imperfections.

Finished Results

- Roof again

- Here is a great picture of the "pop" back into the paint. It's amazing how much more blue the car appeared.

Overall, I feel like the Meguiar's system is very efficient at removing light swirls. I really did enjoy using the microfiber pads instead of the more traditional foam pads. No pad saturation, no product sling, and REALLY EASY cleanup. As stated above, deeper imperfections remained. If time allowed, I would have brought out a stronger compound/pad to handle those imperfections accordingly. As far as the wax, I can't really comment on the durability yet. Supposedly, the wax contains a polymer blend so it should hold up pretty well. As you can see, it really brought the blue out on the vehicle.

I would really love to start detailing more on the side, and I am hoping these pictures could help me sell my services. I still have ton to learn, so if anyone has questions or feedback please let me know! Thanks for looking :xyxthumbs:

Nice work!

One of the best things about any compound or polish or even polish/wax is easy wipe-off and that's one great feature about the D300 and D301 products, easy wipe-off...

Correction ability for the compound is good but keep in mind this system was designed for production detailing, not perfectionist detailing, so while it does do a great job sometimes you may need a more aggressive product and many find that the M105 works well with the Microfiber DA Pads as like the D300 they are both SMAT products.

Definitely use this thread to showcase your work to get new customers...

Lots of great tips for getting a detail business going here...

Thanks for the kind words and help! I can't believe I forgot to mention the easy wipe-off of the compound and the wax. To be fair, it was so hot and humid outside (New Orleans, LA) that it felt like I was doing more work than what it was.

I knew I should have purchased the M105 for the DA application during the memorial day sale. I think it is really nice that they made the M105 for DA specific applications. I've been meaning to try M105 for a long time now, and I think it could further help me with my detailing endeavors.

Great results. I actually peeked at your thread before I posed mine. I really love the "working" time of this kit. Start to finish, with breaks for food, health, and pictures, it only took me 7 hours to detail this Stang.

May I ask you how long it took you to achieve your results with the DA kit?

First time I used the MF system I experimented when I encountered some deeper marring that the D300/MF wouldn't handle. IMO, D300 with PFW cut as well and finished better than M105/MF while retaining the easy wipeoff, no sling and lack of dusting compared to 105. YMMV.

Looks great, I found a pad primed with D300 and a few small drops of M105 yields great cut and finish.

You're aware that optimum re-vised their polishes recently? :)

I see the "New & Improved" polishes in the AG store, just wondering if the 8oz samplers available in the Pick-3 packs are the new product? Description of the samplers makes no mention of "New" or "Improved".

Good question.

I'm pretty sure they have been revised since then, not positive, though. I'll look into it.

Would love to know that myself...I bought the compound and polish in Jan 2011 from AG...I felt it was good but I really felt I got better results from the megs stuff...

I never considered Optimum polishes until the new versions came out. They all look very promising.

You purchased the older versions. Found out the new version compound was released in April and the other 2 in May.
