I have a question and was hoping someone could help me out as I can't seem to find the answer. I just purchased meguiars DA polisher with backing plate W68DA, now is this backing plate only meant for and will only fit meguiars soft foam 2.0 pads? or will I also be able to use lake countries 6.5 inch pads?

It was mainly designed to work with the 7" Meguiar's Softbuff 2.0 pads. The W68DA backing plate will fit exactly into the recessed part of the said foam pads. You can use this with a 6.5" foam pad but the edge of the backing plate will close to the edge of the pad, if not flush. (I've tried this with the 6.5" Meguiar's original Softbuff pads) That makes buffing out edges or contours extremely dangerous as the BP's edge can damage the paint. The W68DA has a rubber edge but I still wouldn't risk it. Will it work, yes. Is it safe, no.

If I were you, I'd use a 6" Lake Country backing plate for your 6.5" foam pads.

Thanks marc for the help. One more quick question as I am very new to this and just bought my first da to try using. So does this mean the backing plate is actually a little bigger than 6"? and what about if I stepped it up to a 7" pad, or would this then be too big a pad for the plate?

Backing plate needs to be a bit smaller then a pad, so you don't hit the paint with the plate. 6" plate would be fine with 5.5" pads, etc.

I think that the W68DA backing plate is slightly over 6" in total diameter but the velcro is slightly less than 6" in diameter. The 7" Softbuff 2.0 pads are a perfect fit for the W68DA backing plate.
