I was reslly satisfied with my 2nd generation Griot's DA, so I bought another one. However, as many of you know, I had an issue with that one. I returned it and was issued credit to my card. I decided to try the G110v2, mainly because I almost use a DA exclusively for the Meguiars MF system. I thought it would be a good idea to pick up the DA that the MF system was designed around. I used it today and I must say, I'm impressed! On speed 4, with the 7" Meg's softbuff polishing pad, I had to put a lot of pressure to stop the pad from rotating, much more pressure than I'll ever use. I haven't compared it one after another to the Griot's, but I'm equally impressed with the power of the G110v2. I think the "cruise control" feature really helps this machine being that the amps are lower than the Griot's. It's built like a tank, very solid. I also like where the power switch is located compared to Griot's, much better! The speed dial doesn't feel as flimsy either. I didn't use the G110v2 for toooo long, but from what I think so far, it has less vibrations than the Griot's. I need to polish a whole car before I come to a solid conclusion. I bought one that supposedly has the power cord fix. The power cord is very thick(like the Flex 3401). Time will tell. I give the nod to the Griot's as far as comfort in my hand. The chassis is wider with the G110v2, but not unbearable. I prefer the slimmer design of the Griot's and the way the head is shaped also. You can't go wrong with either of these polishers as far as performance. I still feel the PCxp(bought annd sold) is a step below these 2 polishers as far as performance.

I literally laughed out loud, Tim!!

Tell Mrs. 07 that I'm sorry.

Go for it, but the G110v2 and the MF system. These 2 are truly awesome inventions!! :dblthumb2:

Coke/Pepsi

I almost always grab the PC when I need a DA Polisher and I get everything I want to do with it done to my expectations. I've been using the PC since it was introduced by Meguiar's in the early 1990's to the paint polishing world as has hundreds of thousands of other people and a lot of swirls have been removed as a results.

Of course, at the same time I could just as easily grab the Megs or GG unit and get the job done.

And... in our Detailing 101 Class I strongly encourage everyone to test ALL the PC style tools and for the Advanced Wetsanding Class I set all these tools up to be Dampsanders and again, encourage everyone to test them all out and come to their own decision as to which tool they like best.

Looks like Meguiars G110v2 vs Flex here! Nick is read with towel in hand for any polish to fly!

The first thing I do with any of these tools is throw the handle away and never look back and recommend the same to others. Sans handle, the PC fits and feels best to grip, in my opinion and that's a feature I like because I use it with one hand a lot.

Also, a design flaw with the Megs unit is the tool stand, in this article here I point this out...

Handle? Or No Handle? - Using DA Polishers Without the Handle

Excerpt from the above article...
With the Bail Handle removed off the Meguiar's DA Polisher, there's a built-in tool rest that keeps the polisher from tipping over if you place it on it's back with the Bail Handle removed or adjusted to the extreme forward position. While this does provide a benefit, the problem is if you use this tool without the Bail Handle, this tool rest gets pressed into your hand.

See the imprint in my hand? Imagine holding this tool with a strong grip and machine applying wax to vertical panels with one hand...

My recommendation to Meguiar's, (for whatever it's worth), would be to remove the tool rest and take it a step further, design it specifically for holding with the human hand, you know, ergo and all that. Look at the Flex PE14 and the new DeWALT Bumblebee, both heads of both tools are designed for being held with the hand, which is also my personal preference for using a rotary buffer.

One thing for sure Mark, you're passionate about the craft and always willing and ready to share your opinion and even change it as circumstance change...

Keep us updated on your experience...

Oh... and a couple cream-puff shots... both polished out with all the tools talked about on AGO...

Polished to perfection using all the different types of tools and the point is that while the tool is a key factor... more important is using good technique with quality pads and products...

My first e-book is specific to DA Polishers but it doesn't play favorite with the tools, just shares the techniques you would use with whichever one you own.

Do you want to attend a Detailing Class?

Do you want to learn the art of polishing paint to remove swirls, scratches, water spots and even orange peel? Then send me an e-mail...

I'm working on dates for the next classes. I can't guarantee we'll have cool cars like the 1962 Cadillac and the 1971 GTO but I'll try...

If you want to be notified when the next Detailing 101 and 102 classes are scheduled, then please send me an e-mail, (not a Private Message), with the subject: Class Request to [email protected]

:)

I dunno, it's just my opinion about the PCxp, I think the other 2 are better performers! :dunno: Not to say the PCxp can't get the job done.

Thanks for adding the wealth of information as usual, Mike.

For me, the tool rest of the G110v2 is awesome! I don't grip the polisher in any way where that interferes when polishing. I use the 3401 to apply LSP's, that's where it seems it might interfere. :)

I WANNA ATTEND THE DETAILING CLASS@!@!@!

Also I actually used my GG6 today and its vibration-a-ton. Also at speed 1 when I tried to clean the pad I was able to stop the pad from moving with no problem...

When have a bit of coin in the bank I think I'll pick up a G110v2 since it seems to getting a bit of love as of late from members on the forums.

OK, now I can officially make the proclamation:

Mark, I told you so! :p

I waxed my car again tonight with my GG and on speed 3.5 if I just bump the edge of the pad on a body line it stops spinning. Since I was applying wax I didn't try much downward pressure but it just didn't feel like it really has much power. Guess it's time to make a call. With what you just said Mark I wish I could get my money back and try the G110v2.

Griot's has a 100% satisfaction guarantee, so call them and tell them you're not satisfied, and you want to return it for a refund. Doesn't hurt to try.

I've only used my GG 2 times, and since I'm a beginner, I didn't notice the pad stopping too much maybe when I had a good amount of pressure on it

As I stated before, the GG is a great polisher(minus some QC issues), but I'm sure yours is fine.

That's normal, that's the safety feature people love about DA Polishers... the pad "will" stop spinning so you can't harm the paint.

Try the same exact thing, same place same pad, same chemical etc. on the 5-6 setting.

Speed setting makes a huge difference in what happens at the surface level.

:)

Have to disagree with you on the power switch location. Have you ever been working on the bottom of a boat and needed to turn the Meguiar's off? It's a PITA compared to the simple tap on the side with the Griot's.
To each their own though. I'll stick with Griot's.

Mark you promised that you weren't going to buy another machine . Congrats again and thanks for sharing you experiences with us . All I know you better be coming to DF this year also let us know a couple of days in advance so Auto Geek can get a extra trailer on site for all the products you buy .

I have a g110. The v2 was on backorder when I picked up the griots. Even my g110 is a solid machine. I pull it out as much as I do the griots. I would love to take the v2 for a spin. Glad you like the new megs Mark!

I can't wait to hear your full review Mark! You're making me want to switch out my GG6 for the G110v2.

I will be convinced you love it still .....in a few weeks! Mark , you fall headover heels in and out of love very easily!:buffing: Next thing we know you will buying a rotary again:pc7424::laughing:

You're so right!

I thought the same thing when I first got my G110V2. Though it is a very capable polisher I quickly grew dis interested. I got away from the PC style DAs and moved back to the rotary and 3401.

I just now finished installing a real beefy power cord on my G110V2 and am about to walk out the door to go try the 5" microfiber correction system out for the first time. Maybe after today I'll have a renewed relationship with the G110V2 and once again be saying that it is awesome.
