Meguiar's Gold Class Carnauba Plus paste - Durability

I had no problems like this when I tested Dodo Juice against Dodo Juice. I used the same procedure, body solvent (Take Off) - water soaked towels (rinse simulation) - dry towel. The Dodo waxes held up for a long time and they were exposed to very little road salt. Thankfully there's no snow in the forecast but if there was I would run this test again. I stand firm with the belief of the road salt breaking down the protection of the waxes, not lingering body solvent. Sorry guys.

You know, I saw that body solvent wipe down and it just sort of stuck, but I would agree with you that the extreme harshness of the road salt and touchless wash these two waxes were subject to is what did them both in. That's why when people ask us "how long does a wax last" we often respond "two weeks to six months, depending on prep and exposure". Yeah, we get some funny looks to that response, but it's true. You simply can put a hard and fast time limit on wax life. Sure, some will last longer than others, but bury any in salt and wash them with a strong detergent and they're all pretty much gone in no time.

So if I am going to do a Max Wax vs Megs GC Carnuba + this weekend.

I am going to wash and IPA the hood then do one side with the Megs and one with the Max wax. I will then give it a week and see what looks best.

The second week I will do the same procedure but put down 845 first then the max and megs

Does this sound reasonable?

Your idea sounds good to me, but maybe try 2-3 weeks if possible. Unlike me with my test, snap a few pictures along the way! My Pinnacle Signature Series II just arrived and I plan another test because we will have a few rainy days ahead. I just have a couple questions:

Are you testing this on a daily driver?

What kind of weather are you having right now? Sunny? Rainy? Mixed?

My next test will be better documented with pictures and I plan a better approach to surface prep such as using Dawn or something similar to wash the car with. There's a possibility that remaining body solvents could have aided in the breakdown of the waxes and I want to eliminate that. I also plan to post in the proper section next time, Product Reviews. Whatever you decide, good luck, have fun, and take/post pictures! :hungry:

Not to discredit the OP's findings, but I've achieved completely opposite results using Meg's GC Carnauba Plus. I've gotten over two months durability using this wax. I was really impressed when I first tried it at an open garage at Meg's HQ. The wax is incredibly easys to use and produces stunning results on dark and light colors alike.

I highly recommend this stuff. You can easily extend durability by using a quality wash that won't strip wax. Hopefully the OP will obtain better results the next time he uses GCCP.

Not sure if you've read the whole post so I'll sum it up for you: The car only had 1 coat of GCCP applied on purpose. The test was a durability test against harsh winter driving - road salt, snow, touchless car washes. Something tells me that your location doesn't see much snow or road salt, going by your comment of Meg's HQ.

Now, I was impressed with the initial application, easy on easy off, little to no dusting. Great shine and slick finish. In the weeks coming we have rain headed our way and I plan a test against Pinnacle Signature Series II with better documentation.

And the comment about extending durability with a quality wash, Meguiar's Ultimate Wash & Wax is not quality? I beg to differ! It has now replaced Gold Class shampoo in my line-up. The first series of pictures were taken after the first hand wash with UW&W, the second series taken two days later with the same soap and no QD's or QW's. :dblthumb2:

Any chance you've got remnants of the body solvent still on the surface when the wax was applied? It is extremely bizarre that water would lay in a sheet and not move at all on a vertical panel such as your rear quarter panel. Even the Autoglym HD wax is hardly beading at all on the hood, and it should be beading like mad on a horizontal surface like that.

Any body solvent remaining when the waxes were applied may well have compromised them during application.

I'm wondering if perhaps you should just skip the body solvent next time and just use a paint cleanser or light paint cleaner. I think that would probably make for more fair results. Just my two cents.
