Meguiars M101 Review -- Does it live up to the hype?

One thing I really like about M105 is that it works incredible for hand polishing with a MF towel or applicator in really tight areas. There are always a ton of spots that need to be polished out by hand if your doing the job properly. This is the only reason I have continued to keep M105 around in my arsenal. Otherwise I use other compounds by machine for ease of use.

I just bought a 32oz bottle of M101. I know I can test this on my own in the future, but i'm wondering what Meg's stance is on hand polishing areas with M101. M105 is designated to also be used by hand because of the amazing abrasive technology not scouring the paint (under door handles, under mirrors, wings, jams, ect ect...) Has anyone used M101 in these situations ? If it works well for this, I can FINALLY stop buying M105 in 8oz containers !!! I would be very happy if I can follow through with this..

I haven't used it in this regard, but I'm sure it would be perfectly acceptable and produce great results! :props:
 
Mike don't you mean 3m chemist. Lets face it, the products got better since 3m took over.
 
Still waiting for the Geek to get 101 in the gallon.Hopefully it can save us a couple bucks .
 
Just to clarify things a bit the original poster put that it leaves no dust. This statement is consistent with most of the bulls***you'lll hear when people promote products. This compound is in fact one of the best if not the best I've ever used before. In my opinion, to achieve the fastest correction an 8" wool pad works best. You do not need to use a foam pad despite the what Meguiars ( or should I say 3M) decided to call it. It does produce a lot of dust so be prepared to blow it off or cleaned it up however you see fit.
 
It does dust, but nowhere near m105 or some others. The dust come flying out when blowing or brushing out your pad. Nonetheless, I love M101
 
Every time I've used my M101 the dusting is very low and it does a great job correcting and IMO is usually LSP ready (although I always re-wash)

I just sold my bottle of 101. Probably should have tried it first. I love M100 so much that I'd rather stock up on it, rather than have multiple bottles of something I'll use once .

I have never used 100, 105 or 205 but I have the 101 and whenever I've used it i5 finishes LSP ready without a lot of dust, in fact it's never been a problem for me in that department!

Damn.... Reports of dust were the reason I let it go..
 
I've used M101, M105, M205 and D300. M105 dusted the most and it has the shortest working time of the bunch. M101 still dusts but less than M105. The working time is another plus. It can finish LSP on some paints.

The only time I have had M205 dust is when it was too humid and hot. Other than that I have no issues with it and it finishes very well.

D300 has zero to little dust. It works great on the new Meguiar's thin cutting pad as well as the microfiber cutting pad. This can finish LSP ready as well.

I no longer own M105 as M101 has taken it's place. I have M100 that I am looking to try out as I hear good things about it. .
 
i just bought this and will be using it this long weekend, ive polished multiple times with a da and the swirls are still there only in direct sunlight but still, ultimate compound is the strongest ive used so im hoping this will knock those swirls and a few scratches out for good, i was going ot finish with 205 with a polishing pad then pinnacle advanced finishing polish on a finishing pad, hows that sound? should i skip the 205 maybe, ive used it before and this will be my first time with the pinnacle.

i got that new burgandy cutting pad but maguire says not to use it cuz its to strong, you guys use it anyway? think i should just use it, im new to detailing but im good with tools and ive gotten quite good with my da

the guys who say it dusts are probably doing a lot more then the 5 or 6 recommended passes

i clayed my car weeks ago so im thinking i can skip that step huh?
 
any chance of wearing through the clear coat with this stuff on a cutting pad with a da polisher???
