Even duragloss.... a company with their 1950s labeling...... have a coating now lol

You guys go and listen to Larry Kosillas (Ammo NYC) podcast with Jason Rose from Megs. He talks about coatings here in the US and why they have not release a coating here yet... It has to do with what they feel the customer wants and needs out of a coating. He said that in Asia, the coating market is more of a mature market whereas here, it is still a newer add-on compared to other markets.
He also talks about the properties that everyone wants are all different, and what is best for the paint is not the massive beading shots we all like, but a product that would sheet the water off the car to leave it virtually dry as to mitigate any water spots.

Good stuff, go and listen. It is a long two part podcast, but well worth it.

No products that I know of sheet. Most all bead. Same for coatings right?

Ammos own products bead right?

"Some Meguiar's waxes, like Gold Class wax, are not formulated to bead water well. Many people read into this that it is a product that doesn't protect well. The chemists that created this formula understand that water beading and then drying on painted surfaces can lead to problems, so they designed Gold Class Wax to not bead water".

This is exactly the reasoning behind what Jason was saying to Larry, beading is nice, its a great show, but for actual protection of the paint, sheeting water off fast would be the best so as not to have beads sitting there causing spots.

Thanks Bob.

Thanks Bob.
Thanks Bob
You're Welcome!

As my posting history will affirm:
I've always been a proponent of "water sheeting".
Beading, IMHO, can lead to the damnation of auto paint,
and other auto components as well.

Although beading is used by some as a gauge, saying that's proof positive that an LSP is still present and accounted for...
that still doesn't excuse the horror stories of the accountings of water-spotting/etchings/etc. attributable to water beading.

I know this thread is a bit.... shall we say.... stale. But it's worth noting that Meguiar's (in the countries where the product is available) only sells M188 to "Qualified Installers". That info is right there on the labeling in fact. Yet it seems to be (based on 6 month re-application) no different than the whole of the 'lesser' coatings on the market today. Whereas it's not anything NEAR what OC 2.0 (or other OC products) are.

Which also begs the question......
Why then, pray tell, isn't it available to the general public? :dunno:

Could this phenomenon be the reason Meguiar's LSPs are considered to lack durability?

Years ago, I used to use #20 Polymer Sealant in the fall, and in the spring the Deep Crystal Cleaner, or the A12 pad would get "gummy" with what I believed to be old Polymer Sealant. That meant that it had endured the salt from the winter, which to me indicates durability.

I think you are correct with that thinking.

Example...Finished 'waxing' (Ult Wax) my truck last Friday. Yesterday, raining pigs and chickens, took truck to the local hardware store (only a mile away). Yes it was beading, BUT after coming out of the store, NO beads. Just some fine lookin' sheeting.

If someone were to just look at the lack of 'beading', one would think (incorrectly) that 'wax' is needed.
