Hi everyone!

I currently have a LC 5" backing plate and for this reason, I didn't buy the Meguiar's Microfiber System 5" Starter Kit. I only bought the 5" cutting and finishing discs and their corresponding 16oz liquids. Now I've been reading a lot of threads that the backing plate plays a crucial role in the success of this system and the reason is the "micro" hook and loop system in the Meguiar's backing plate (W67DA). My question is whether the 5" LC backing plate have the "micro" hook and loop system? Will it work as effectively as the W67DA or do I need to get the Meguiar's backing plate?

Thanks for your time and input!

I've used the DA pads on both an LC and the Meg's plate, and the velcro on either seem to work just fine.

Thanks for the response Charlie!

Do you see a difference in length of the hook and loop fingers between the two backing plates?

Marc,

Just watched the video on the product page and they seemed to make a pretty big deal about using the Meguiar's backing plate. Mike (in the video) seem to support this.

Yale

I was at Meguiars for a class on their MF system. I asked about this and they said the LC backing plate should work just fine.

i purchased a megs backing plate that was for the MF system..so far I have never used it yet with the pads..i only used the LC one and its been just fine.

That's good to know, I had the MF pad on mine crooked, tore the pad to crap and ripped the velcro off the back plate. Guess it didn't like the extended use, crooked orientation, and 110 degree heat :xyxthumbs:

Time to order some more (I love excuses to get more stuff)

If you don't have a BP already, I'd pick up the W67DA because it's a bit better built IMHO, but if you already have an LC backing plate it should work fine.

WOW!!! Many thanks for posting comparison pictures Charlie!!! Much appreciated!

I already have the LC backing plate hence why I didn't buy the starter kit because I thought BPs were very similar. It seems that the Meguiar's W67DA have shorter hook and loops. Is this an accurate statement Charlie?

Thanks again!

yes it does have shorter hook n loop..So it makes witht he MF pad easier to remove and less chance of pulling the pad apart if you remove it improperly from BP like the LC. The other downside the hooknloop sucks on the megs with hydrotechs..it is to short and when i used it with my red hydrotech the pad kept shifting around and it ended up tearing the pad up cause it slipped far enough to dig into it..I probably will never use my megs BP again unless my LC one breaks.

I would say the difference is minimal, but yeah there's a difference.

Can't say I've ever had that problem with foam pads shifting on my Meg's plate....
