Meguiars Mirror Glaze line.

Mike,
With regard to #26, I seem to remember a post of yours in the past in which a Meguiar's chemist stated that #26 had the purest D.O.I. of any wax/sealant he had tested. Am I correct?

I'm not Mike, but here's one his posts that I believe alludes to your above question (my high-lighting, BTW):

I have a catalog in my collection from 1988 that states,

M26 is the only wax that will increase the D.O.I. of a previously polished surface.

The context of that statement was after using #7 Show Car Glaze on black paint, most waxes would decrease D.O.I. while M26 would actually increase D.O.I.

I asked a chemist friend about this and he said it was because M26 has/had the ability to bend light. Maybe one of our engineering type people can explain how that would work...

D.O.I. = Distinction of Image

The ability of a surface to reflect an image clearly. A mirror offers 100% D.O.I.

He said it had the ability to bend light into the paint... In the context of our discussion I took that to mean that this was a unique feature of this product and that other products, (at that time), didn't have this feature.

He told me bending light is something that's very hard to do, at least at that time or at least using a micron or sub-micron layer of wax.

I hope to go to Californial sometime this summer and if I do, I'll dig up my catalog that talks about the ability of M26 to increase the D.O.I. of a previously polished surface.

26 won't last as long as others but it's so easy to apply and remove, it doesn't really matter

Bending light, DSOTM logo, too funny Mike. More bending of the brain.

Do any of the newer products have the ability to improve D.O.I.

Wow that's shocking, I would have thought megs came a long way with a pure carnuaba by now.

To be fair the car I am most familiar with it on is outside a lot, sits in Florida sun and heavy rains as well, so it could very well last a lot longer elsewhere.

This is true for sure, it is so easy to work with I can't complain anytime I need to reapply it.

M105/M205 are the best of the lot, I love megs and have since I was a kid doing the ole' 3 step (paint cleaner, polish, liquid carnuba) on my 94 v6 mustang. But the detailers line is a great line all together, Final inspection is a decent quick detailer but a tad overpriced IMO compared to some of the others out there. The best bets are #7, m105,m205, and then try out the "ultimate" line of products they have, they are OTC and work as great as some higher priced products do

In my limited experience M26 and M21 give very similiar looks, very shiny but without much depth/wetness. M21 will last for months, M26 weeks. On black, Meguiars Gold Class Carnauba Plus adds depth/wetness and gives the same intense shine as M21 and M26. I set my silver Jeep up every fall with M21 two coats and Collinite #845. It lasts the winter and then some. On my black mustang, I use BFWD, two coats and them Meguiars Gold Clas Plus. I have tried Midnight Sun and the Gold Class is better.

What makes you like the gold class over the midnight sun? I have used both and MS has a much deeper look and really sets off the BFWDPS.

Interesting, can you explain what you liked better about the Gold Class over MS.

There is something in the Plus of the Gold Class Carnauba Plus that makes the black look deeper and wet that I don't see in MS. Do a side by side and see for yourself. Tell me what you think. You can also do a search on the forum. The Gold Class has a dedicated following. I think it blows Fuzion away on black.
