Meguiar's New Ultimate Wax- Paste

I'm a bit jealous that you guys are applying this wax w.out sealant holograms.

I'm glad that ultimate wax likes you, and your pics look great.
 
I just wanted to add a quick update here. I had applied Ultimate Paste Wax to Mrs. Spicy's truck about a month ago. I hadn't really thought about it much, but it was raining this morning and there was absolutely no beading left at all. Now, it has been nasty around here lately and her truck has gotten hammered with road salt, snow and rain for the past month.

So while I still say that this wax went on easy and looked great, I don't think the durability is the best. But I still like it, and I'll hang onto it for a while and give it another shot when the weather improves.
 
I have experienced no streaking. It was easy on and off.

I applied it about 2 weeks ago to my entire car, even the windows and since application we have revieved rain storm after rain storm. My front windshield still beads and sheds water quickly even after a week of continuous windsheild wiper swiping on it.

I personally like the wax pretty well.
 
That's disappointing indeed, Spicy. When did you apply it to Mrs. Spicy's car and how many times has the car been washed? Did you wash it yourself or did you take it to a commercial wash?

Beading, of course, is curious thing. Protectants bead differently. Some bead brilliantly; some sheet. As I understand these matters, beading is caused by surface tension and can be interrupted by dirt and contaminants. The lack of beading, therefore, doesn't necessarily mean that the protection has disappeared and perhaps the beading will improve after the next wash; yet still, based on the advertising claims, one would expect, under normal conditions, several months durability from Ultimate Wax. If this durability is not forthcoming, there's going to be a lot of disappointed customers.

I like your questions! The car has been washed twice, with DG 901 which dosen't strip protection AFAIK. Now I will say I didn't clay before I waxed, however I don't feel like it needed to be clayed. The surface was very smooth to begin with. As I said his vehicle has been attacked by the elements, but I still would have hoped the wax lasted a little longer. I have Dodo Juice Rainforest Rub on my Cube, and it is still beading stong after more than 45 days.

That's a dissapointment, I'll have to see how it holds up for me although it has been pretty dry around here recently, raining only at night.


Nice write up of that Challanger Mike, it's looking great!

If this seems to be a common issue with this wax, and it appears that it is, Meguiar's would have done enough testing in order to identify and solve this BEFORE it was released to consumers...

Thank you!... I see countless posts that state that I should've applied it with a da and a particular pad, but c'mon guys and girls, this is an OTC product sold to others who don't have a pc etc. (I have one, and other polishers.. but speaking on an OTC product, my polishers are beside the point).

I have a good deal of experience with lsp's and had a heck of a time with the paste.

The smearing I experienced is very hard to see in most lights, and the only way I can describe it is the kind of smearing that one can only see when you are in motion, as you would be while walking in a parking lot.

I like the "look" that Meguiars' lsps give, but I won't use my paste due to the smearing.

BTW, my car is black...and such smearing would've been hard to see on a light color.
 
I have the liquid version, and it smeared a little bit when I applied it. However, I only let it sit about 20 minutes or so. I think if you can let it sit longer, you won't have any trouble with smearing. At least that is my understanding - I'll let it sit longer next time I use it. It's been on my car for 3 weeks now and seems to be holding up fine. Few pics I took a few minutes ago since it is raining outside - keep in mind both cars are dirty - Ultimate Wax on my car was applied 3 weeks ago, and my car was last cleaned about a week ago (last Monday, at which time I posted some videos of how UW was beading and sheeting at that time: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...ultimate-wax-beading-sheeting-properties.html), and the silver Accord was last washed about 2 weeks ago, and the last time it was waxed was 2 coats of Collinite 845 applied last of November.

So that's a quick comparison of a 3-month old application of Collinite 845, and a 3-week old application of Ultimate Wax. I'm sure a good wash will improve the beading, but I think it would be safe to say that Collinite 845 would definitely be the winner in a durability contest against UW. Need I say more?
 
The problem is with the product, not the people applying it.

Theres newbs on MOL who sign up and their first post is complaing about the patches and streaks on the hood.

Theres veteran detailers out there who recognize the problem as well.

Also, this issue does not apply to the cleaner waxes but only to NXT & Ultimate.

Me think these two have some cheap PITA coating that just is a pain to deal with.

Agreed... I don't have this problem with m16 or m26.
