Meguiar's Paint Protect. OTC

Here is what I dont understand. First off, the OP admitted this product did nothing for appearance. Even Meguiars doesnt advertise this product produces a great shine or high gloss. That alone says something.

If I am a professional detailer, I want my customer to be wowed! I want his or her car to be as shiny and glossy as possible. Ultimate Wax for instance will help with that (as well has hundreds of other products). Paint Protect will not. Additionally, we all love beading. Paint protect doesnt bead well, another non wow factor for a customer.

In my opinion, this product is not targeted for anyone who visits this forum or a professional detailer. It is a product very specifically targeted to the consumer who wants to protect their paint, isnt particular about the shine, is not someone who spends a lot of money on detailing products, and wants something easier to apply than wax. Quite frankly, I wouldnt be surprised if this product does not actually get traction in the marketplace at all seeing as it really does not have a wow factor.

Why this particular product gets so much attention by or on detailing forums is a testament only to the Meguiars reputation and not the merits of this product particularly.

I agree. Not everyone loves beading, and for those who don't and prefer a sheeting product, this product will deliver on those terms. But the marketing and the actual behavior of the product is the opposite of what one would expect. It's a sheeting product marketed and sold as a beading one. And I have yet to see this product deliver on its beading claims, in person or in video.

It's difficult to wipe completely clean from the paint due to the residuals, which makes me not recommend it for professional use unless you have time to let it cure and allow the residuals to evaporate off of the paint. But at that point you might as well just use a different product. And if my customer really wanted a product that beads water like crazy, maybe to gauge some sense of perceived durability, I certainly wouldn't use it for that purpose either.

It's not a bad product if you stripped away all of the marketing. It's unique in how you apply it compared to the other Meguiar's products, silky smooth and the residuals are something that doesn't bother me so long as they evaporate off of the paint which has been my experience. It's priced super low and will last a long time and easily available. It's something I can recommend to those who like sheeting products. But when we judge it based on how it's being marketed, it's a major letdown.

Too late to edit:

...and will last a long time and easily available.

To clarify, I mean the bottle will last a long time as a little bit of product goes a long way, I can't make any claims on long term durability. I also don't like the idea of using consecutive washes and rinses to gauge product durability claims. Meguiar's made this claim with Paint Protect and Turtle Wax did it on their ICE Paste. Some products have short term water and soap durability and some products don't. Just rinsing Meguiar's Ultimate Paste Wax for 10 minutes significantly altered its surface tension properties in my test, does this mean the product only lasts for one wash? I would think not.
