I am a "seasoned newb".....You seem pretty open-minded and I would like to get a small sample of another "top of the line product" so I can experiment, compare and learn. What's the next best in your opinion.

Thanks :)

I'm 100% Megs, and right now I feel like Tiger Woods cheating on his wife.

Poor Boys Trim Restorer would be a good one for comparison. :props:

Worked very well on the GM plastic textured bumpers and trim on my Vue. They were zebra striped and grey. Sorry did not have time to get before and after photos. After application they are back to like new condition, dark and even colored. We are going to have rain for the next couple of days so I will see how it holds up.

i got this awhile back and applied with the foam app and it looks great but i'm getting streaks running down the bed of my truck when it rains, which it is now. anyone else having these issues?

Sorry to bump a four month old thread but I didn't want to post something new.

I finally received my bottle of Meg's UP from eBay about a week ago and applied it to the windshield cowling, mud flaps and textured black plastic on the side mirrors. I used a small amount on a foam applicator pad and worked into the plastic similar to how you'd apply a paint cleaner or scratch remover to your paint. After applying I let it dry for a few minutes and buffed off any excess with a microfiber towel. As luck would have it it rained for three days straight after applying it.

All I can say is - the stuff lives up to what it claims. Previously I used Meguiars #40 Vinyl/Rubber Conditioner on the exterior plastic and it runs and streaks when rain comes close to it. When applied properly, Ultimate Protectant does not. I noticed a little bit of streaking on one part of the cowling where I maybe applied too much but for the rest of the areas that I applied it to it still looks as good as the day I applied it.

It takes a little bit of passion to get the product to work right as it's not a simple WOWO product, but when used properly Meguiars Ultimate Protectant really does last through the rain on exterior plastic. This will be a mainstay in my detailing arsenal for the immediate future.

My personal test and conclusions.

  • 303 Aerospace
  • Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant
  • Poorboy's World trim Restorer

  • Poorboy's works really well leaving a rich black appearance to any plastic or rubber trim it's applied to. It does go on evenly and coats well. It's a little glossy but quickly dulls to a nice even black.
  • Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant works similarly to Poorboy's but I think Poorboy's World Trim Restorer edges out the win between these two in richness and overall appearance.
  • What I have discovered though is applying a couple of coats really improves the appearance of Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant which adds to its endurance outdoors.
  • While Poorboy's World Trim Restorer may initially go on easier and look better than Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant it "may" not last as long on exterior plastics, I'm evaluating it now.
  • 303 Aerospace really didn't impress me at all and in my opinion is not even in the same class as Poorboy's World trim Restorer or the Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant. 303 Aerospace goes on milky and watery thin. It leaves streaking on wider areas and when it dries it's very dull and lifeless. To be quite honest it reminds me of Armor All which I stopped using nearly 30 years ago.
One thing to keep in mind is that all the testing was done on exterior trim. 303 Aerospace could be an entirely different animal if used on the interior and in reading other posts I suspect this could be the case.

I used 303 and Ultimate Protectant on a Ford SUV that seemed like it had more trim than paint! The trim wad very faded and zebra stripped. The trim laughed at the 303. The Ultimate Protectant made it look like new again. I used 2 coats and so far it has been 3 weeks with several rainy days and it still looks beautiful. Love this product.

Yeah, I cleaned it with meguiars all purpose cleaner first. Maybe I need to apply it with a sponge or foam applicator to reduce any streaks instead of the microfiber rag.

:xyxthumbs: or try foam brushes. I use the foam paint brushes from big lots and it works great, no streaks. On the exterior it gave me a glossier shine than 303 and seemed to last longer.

I used UP on smooth black Honda plastic and it never turned out ok. Same thing happened to a guy with a Nissan over on MOL. Which makes me want to say that UP on smooth plastic isn't a great thing. It worked well on my Saturn's rough plastic though.

Ive used UP on the interior plastics as well as external & havent faced any issues till date. Currently the rain is in full flow here & its stood up pretty well. No streaking at all.
Used a Megs foam applicator, easy to apply.

ON neglected & faded plastics have had to apply upto 3 coats to get back the shine though.
Love the product, the best ive ever experienced for durability & not sticky at all. :xyxthumbs:
