I have a brand new car and on same places there is these small plasitc bits on the paint. I can lightly "scratch" them off with my fingernail but why are they there in the first place? Is it something left over from when the dealer has the plastic pieces on mostly horizontal surfaces?

If it is white or clear, it might be the left over protectant from dealer delivery
