Thank you to all who served and fought to protect our freedom.

While I was walking out of Kroger today I spied a nice looking, white haired, older gentleman, and right away I noticed his WW II Veteran hat he was wearing. (These men don't wear the hats to draw attention to themsleves, rather, so they can meet other Veterans.)

As I was walking out, I glanced over and seen this man sitting on the bench, so I walked over stuck my hand out and said, "Thank for your service and sacrifice sir, I really appreciate it."

I do this everytime I see a Veteran, and it always brings me great joy, and is an honor for me to shake hands with my hero's.

The old man smiled big and said, "Thank you sir, I'd gladly do it again" ...and I know he means that. I think he really appreciated someone saying THANKS to him...the big ol' smile gave it away.

Not many WW II Veterans left these days. They tell me we are losing 1500+ a day. Wow!!

Thank God for those who have served and died for Ol' Glory!!!!

You know hoyt66 & Hoytman , I never looked at it the way you wrote in there , you opened some new horizons , it s not because I had nothing against them , but never thought of it that way .

Hoytman,

This reminds of a story. One time in the gym a young man was talking to his friend and saying how happy he was to be home from Iraq. I excused myself and put my hand out

with a "welcome home and thanks for your service" It sparked the whole gym to thank this young soldier. Funny thing is he seemed so surprised almost like "it's just my job". How humble is that.

Thoughts and prayers for those fallen soldiers and with their families.

I do this because it's a way for me to give back...I didn't serve...and I do it because I can't say thank you to those who made the ultimate sacrifice with their life.

Pap taught me that it's too late to give roses when someone is gone. Do it while their still living. So I do. I do it to honor those who made it and those who didn't, because for each man/woman I shake hands with they probably knew someone that paid the ultimate price that I'll never get to say thanks to, or shake their hand. These men/women have kept this country free for me and for you, so that we can pursue the American dream. They also keep this country he greatest nation on earth. (Not to belittle our allies, either.)

"I thank God for Ol' Glory, our flag that waves so free, and I thank him for our nation he gave to you and me..." - J.D. Jarvis ...

...one of the first men to set foot on Normandy beach, and just one of my hero's. If my memory serves me, I believe J.D. was a scout.

In the link below is "the song" written and sung by J. D. Jarvis. That's my Pap to the right of the coffin/hearse who was honored to preach J.D.'s funeral. When J.D. got home from the war he sang this song in Washington, D.C., (I believe it was on the steps of our nations capitol) in front of several thousand...think it might have been several hundred thousand...people and got a standing ovation.

Just one of my hero's... J.D. Jarvis...singer, gospel song writer, and bluegrass musician. While I don't know the specifics of how many, J.D. received several Gold records and I think maybe one Platinum for albums he made/sold back in the day. That's quite an accomplishment that has gone largely, and sadly, unnoticed in the gospel bluegrass world given the shear number of songs written by J. D. You may not like the style of music, but listen to the words, as it tells a story.

I Thank every veteran I see my wife and me have lost 8 friends and family members to both wars. I'm very thank full for everything they give up to serve our country.

The WW2 vets REALLY put it all on the line!

This is in NO way to denigrate the post WW2 vets (I am one), but those folks really did it all.

Please remember all of the 'fallen' this weekend...

Bill
