When using FG400, have any of you found that SF4500 finishes it out well, or do you need the little extra cut of SF4000?

It depends on the car and color. FG400 can finish lsp ready on light colors. SF4000 has a little more bite than 4500, but you would be hard pressed to tell the difference.
 
Would SI-1500 be a good polish to have in the arsenal for more minor correction? Similar to M205?
 
Is your question, you know you want to start with FG400, and finish w/ SF4500, but would an "intermediate polish" be required to clean up the FG400?

You are a little off....

M105 would be analagous/comparable to SI-1500
M205 would be "" "" to SF-4500

PF2500 would be my choice for minor correction. IMO SI1500 is too aggressive to be a one step polish.

No, my question would be going straight from FG400 to SF4500. The FG400 pages on AG says to finish with SF4000. I have SF4500, so just wondering if SF4500 would have enough cut to finish it off.

So PF2500 finishes nice enough to go straight to LSP? Like, say, Megs UC?
 
BTW, thanks everyone for all your input so far. I may have a few opportunities to do some MB's and BMW's for friends in the near future, so I am trying to learn the Menzerna system a little better. :dblthumb2:
 
Depends on what cutting pad you are using and how much marring is left behind...

This is a jet black toyota (soft paint) that was compounded with FG400 using an orange light cutting pad and then polished with SF4500 using a white polishing pad... The first 50/50 panning left to right shows the original paint (right) vs. paint that was compounded and polished.

The 2nd 50/50 panning up and down (and then left to right when I move) shows the top section that has ONLY been compounded compared to the lower section that had been compounded and polished. You'll notice there are no swirls in the upper section, but it appears slightly "less black" than the section that has been polished.

Again - performing test spots is the only true way to find your answer, but you should be able to produce good results with FG400 and SF4500.

Good to know. Assume I would use this for moderate imperfections that normally would take a one-step like UC? I'll pick some of this up along with FG400 to go with my SF4500. Sounds like that will get me good 1-step and 2-step options.
