Menzerna SF4000 or Megs M205

What Menzerna polish has the closest level of cut to Megs Ultimate Compound?

I did my car with 105 then 205 work great. Just started my wifes vw cc not as bad as my car. I did a test spot with 205 and a mf cutting pad and I was very happy how it performed but ran out of product and wanted to try something new but I ordered more 205. There is some spots I'm going to have to use 105

Depends on if you're talking about the first pass, or throughout the working cycle.

Would be SI 1500...

You are correct sir, to a degree that is. First pass, maybe. But as we all know, one breaks down very quickly, the other doesn't. I'd say Megs #83 for overall cut throughout. But D151 would finish out most like SI 1500, especially as SI leaves some oils and D151 actually has a bit of wax in it and can be left as is afterwards. ;)

I wouldn't however leave the protection of 151 as the final LSP on any vehicle that was going to be a DD and/or left outside. Might do well to do an Eraser/IPA wipedown to strip it a bit (just as you would with SI 1500) the top it with the LSP of your choice.

I would say use D300 with a foam pad and I'm betting it'd be pretty darned close. I know in the 'chart' it has it listed with more cut but likely that was with the microfiber pad. :dunno: I know with a medium cut pad, say a white LC flat, it finishes really nicely.

It'll work very similar to SI 1500 in that you can start with an orange pad, then finish with something two steps up and get a great finish. And use less product along the way due to it not breaking down. Although with 1500 you never have to move off the orange pad, (use more product while you're cleaning on the fly) and it'll finish out really nice. Much better than a SMAT product with the equivalent cut pad. (A SMAT product that has the same initial cut that is.)

Yeah the DAT products lose cut very fast while the SMAT products just keep cutting at the same rate. :xyxthumbs:

Would it be worth the effort of going to a LC orange pad, or just go to a stronger polish?

As I've said earlier, I've seen a TON of vehicles worked start to finish with SI 1500 and an orange pad. ;) (Albeit a well broken in orange pad.)
I've even seen soft Toyota black (Lexus) both sedans and SUV's turn out not only LSP ready, but went straight to Power Lock from there. :xyxthumbs:

Well I tried Ultimate Compound with a white pad on a test spot because I could get it locally, and it knocked out the water marks very quickly. I followed up with M205 for a marginal, if any, increase in gloss. I'm beginning to wonder if the M205 is out of spec and the abrasives were left out.
Will the Ultimate Compound seriously thin the clear coat, and should I only used where absolutely necessary? Or perhaps I should order Menzerna PF2500and/or LC orange pads and try the M205 / SF4000 again.

UC can finish out really good as you found out, however the pad you used might not have corrected everything. So you could move to the orange pad with UC. That should remove anything that was missed the 1st time.

M205 is pad and speed dependent and is a finishing polish.

Then use the white pad with M205 on around speed 3 or 4, the finish should look wet once that is done. If it doesn't then you need to slow down on your arm speed and let the M205 do it's job.
