I recently polished out a light scratch from black paint using sf4500. The paint is in excellent condition , nearly flawless and its been coated.
In noticed the area polished with sf4500 is darker than the surrounding paint.

Does sf4500 have a lot polishing oils? Thats the only thing I can think of for the darker finish.
 
sf4500 does have a lot of polishing oils. Try stripping them with IPA, body prep solvent, megs d114 or your preferred panel wipe product . If the dark area remains, then you likely struck through the coating, check beading and sheeting behavior to verify.
 
I m sure the coating is removed. Not a big deal since I applied it and know how to fix it. I like the darker finish but as stated its most likely due to oils. I'll wipe down with wax and grease remover. Thank you for the confirmation.
 
Or you removed layers of oxidation and contamination leaving behind pristine clear coat. One suggestion is do the rest of the body panel then complete it with your favorite LSP. Usually if I have to do a spot buff it's a different color than the rest of the panel. But my experience is it's lighter, not darker. But as soon as I finish off the spot buff area with an LSP, it blends in.

What pad / DA were you using? Did you take any paint measurements? Another idea is to measure the spot you did, and compare it to a spot you didn't do... If there pretty darn close, then honestly, you did no harm no foul. You just have a very clean polished spot, and sf does have oils. Odds are you're fine... I hit a car with FG400, SF4500, then went over it again with Pinnacle Advanced Compound and Advanced Finishing Polish. I found some flaws and worked those several more times.... no change in the paint measurement readings.
 
I used a LC BLUE finish pad and did not apply pressure. I think the oils made the diff. Gonna do a IPA . Actually its a deeper darker black and looks good.

Sounds to me like you cleaned and polished it. You might have to do the whole car. Imagine how good that would look!! :Picture:
 
Yup I am ready. I'll coat it again. I like the ease of maintenance a coating gives me.
 
I too have noticed that SF4500 can impart a richer looking surface when the paint has been properly polished out. Especially when combined with a rotary polisher such as the PE14 in a "Jeweling" fashion.
