what pads are you using? Mercedes has very hard paint, not sure about the 1999 models, but the newer ones do, so you'll need something aggressive if you have deeper scratches. If you aren't worried about it, the 205 will get the swirls and hazing out, it all depends what you have and what you want.
Depending on the pad, 105 will get the scratches out, follow it with 205 and a finer pad or even a polishing pad.

I did a 2003 Mercedes CLK 320 the foam pad with M105 barely made a dent. I had to use Surbuf pad with M105

i have a orange lake county ccs pad for m105 as well as a optimum mf pad, for m205 flat white, for po85rd black ccs.i don't see any swirls on the paint just light scratches on some parts of the car. how long should i work in the polishes and compounds on what size of a spot.
Assuming the MF pad is the cutting one, use that with the 105 and it should handle it just fine. Otherwise, use the LC orange with 105 on speed 6, that should work well also with what you have, it just depends how bad the scratches are, but there's only one way to find out if it works or not. !05 flashes quickly so one full pass should be enough, that being vertical and horizontal passes. Generally a 2 x 2 area is good, you can go smaller for even more cut.

You gonna need some micro fiber pads on that Benz.. Optimum cutting pads will do.
Yes the pad should be rotating. Use a black permanent marker to mark the backing plate. That way you can tell if its rotating. You want enough pressure, but not so much that the pad stops spinning. Good luck, you can do it.
