When using microfiber cutting pads, does it matter which size pad is used? I know a lot of folks on here swear by 5.5" foam pads when using a DA polisher.

Does the same apply for microfiber?

Seems MF pads have more cut than foam, so a slower speed and less pressure could be used, thus a larger pad.

Thoughts?

I read on another forum that DA's work better with smaller pads, rotary with larger. I won't get into specifics of how and why. I've also found that larger pads can bog down some DA's and slow or stop rotation. 5"-5.5" is a good compromise between the larger and smaller pads.

I use 5.5" and smaller on my PC and Rupes then knock it up sometimes to larger pads on the Rupes and Flex. I have different size plates for all. All depends on what I'm trying to do as to what I'll use.

On a free floating spindle DA such as the Griots and others the smaller thinner 5.5" pads perform better as more energy is transferred through the pad rather being absorbed in a larger thicker pad.

Yes MF pads offer more cut than foam pads due to the fibers acting as a cutting material.

Stick with the smaller 5.5" sized pads regardless of pad design.

I mostly use the 6" on my Rupes 21. Certain cars I will grab the 5" but you cover so much more area at a time using 6".

On a PCXP, GG6, G110v2, I would use 5".

That's a shame. I not long ago CLed my circa-1991 Black & Decker Profesional 12" orbital buffer. Had I known bigger=better I'd have hung on to it!

I have a PC7424XP, and bought the 6" MF pads for use on a 5" BP. I did not like them. I typically use 5.5" CCS pads, and next time i buy MF, i will get 5"

That's actually my go-to. Work well with D300/301 by adjusting the speeds to adjust the correction, work wonderfully with D151 the same way and do surprisingly well with M105/205.

The 6" Rupes MF pads are designed for the 5" back plate. Those are the MF pads I use.
