I`m putting together a large group of drying towels, some I`ve purchased and some were donated for this review. This will be a comprehensive review and will probably take me weeks to compile. So if rather get the right info that everyone is looking for.

What info does everyone want to see? I will have a video, or videos depending on the info.

So... post your suggestions! If you have a towel that you would like to see a review on, post It! take a look at the list below... if it's not on the list then maybe that vendor will donate one.

Keep in mind some of these were donated, some were purchased by me. I`m just an enthusiast and I have completely BLOWN my budget on this review. This is just part of the spreadsheet I put together. The review will have considerably more information, photos and video. There is over $700 worth of towels on this list and more coming in.

I'm waiting for a few more companies to either respond with a yes/no or what towels they will be donating:
Gyeon
UBER drying towel
2 or 3 others

I want this review to be great and help everyone out! Please let me know what towels you want to be reviewed if they are not on the list. I would also like to hear on how you like to see a towel reviewed, or suggestions of the like.

I did receive the OK from Meghan@Autogeek for posting this review on Autogeek since it has products that are not sold by Autogeek. I will NOT be providing Links to said vendors. It will be the responsibility of the person looking to purchase the towels to find the towels after the review is completed.
A HUGE Thank You for allowing this to happen here, I truly do appreciate it.

Thank you,
Chris

Let me save you some time. Griot’s PFM > any other towel. LOL.
On a serious note, thanks for doing this. I don’t have any suggestions but I look forward to your review.

We will definitely see who's towel is the best! I'm going to break it up into different towel types since I have so many towels to review.

I'm really curious to see how Jay Leno's "Super Drying Dowel" will perform. Is it made of soft or hardwood? Something tells me AG/Mike Phillips would not approve of a wood based drying media.

All joking aside, I'm looking forward to the review. Can never have too many drying towels. I mean dowels:)

Subscribed. A lot of top shelf towels there. I'd like to see how they perform when used with "blot" technique and regular swipe technique. Thanks for puttin this together.

Sounds good, I will do my best!

Wow! Thanks for putting this together. Suggestions? something tells me you will cover everything and then some.
Have fun!

I was thinking there is the duragloss towel. And the Adams like I said on autopia. Poorboys also has a waffle weave as does mothers.

Again thanks for doing this is quite exciting don't get down if someone doesn't like some way you do it lol

Do you have a plan for "controls"?

For example - testing all towels on the same car washed and rinsed the same way for each test.

I know there would be a wide spectrum of results for example if you tested/dried the water off a coated car as compared to a neglected finish or a car that's only seen a car wax.

Looking forward to your testing and results.

:)

Poorboys, unfortunately couldn't help.

Thanks for the response!

I was going to use either my wifes Tahoe or my truck. Maybe both!

The Tahoe has a base of Klassee High Gloss Sealant that is maintained with McKee's 37 Hydro Blue.

My truck has Blackfire Wet Diamond topped with Blackfire Midnight Sun.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to test total absorbancy - saturate towel in a bucket and have drip until no water freely drips off, then weigh. The difference between dry and saturated weight divided by the weight of one gallon of water.... or something like that.

I will do the different types of drying; blot and drag. Am I missing one?

How well the towels do after being saturated and wrung out.

Since there's not much of a way I can control ambient temperature and humidity hang dry time will be fairly subjective to the day and my location. However it will give an general idea if "X" towel takes a day, hour, etc.

There will be more but it's time to get the work day going.

I have a suggestion and I feel it's rather important. Please do not apply the water onto the panel with a spray bottle. It must be done via hose nozzle, try and pick a setting that coats the panel with lots of beads to truly put each towel to the test.

Not sure if you're planning on pre washing all the towels prior to the test, but if you do, make sure to dry them in the dryer and not air/line dried.. Softer towels make for optimal testing.

No drying aids, no mulligans, and no "pre dampening".

You beat me to it.

I'm going to wash (MF detergent) and fluff dry every NEW towel 3 times before testing. No pre-wetting as I want get that consistent and frankly I don't do it in my normal routine. No drying aids as I currently don't use them.

I say NEW towel as a few of the towels were purchases before I got this crazy idea. I will note which towels were not new, and all of you can make your choices from there.

Here's another suggestion: And this might be a bit of a nit pick, but IMO it's important enough to consider making sure that towels are not only matched vs. similar genre of towel, but also similar sized towels... I notice your current list has Big Blue Towel @18x26" and Griots PFM @25x36".

If you were to pin them up against each other via drag method to dry a panel, wouldn't the PMF have an unfair advantage due to having alot more square footage to drag along? I'd say yes. But that's just my opinion.

Agreed. Ill be wetting the panels as I normally would rinse via high pressure from a nossle and then flood. Being that the two vehicles have a lot of square footage to dry a spray bottle wouldn't be feasible.

That's the top of our Tahoe on Sunday evening.

I assume you have a Werner platform or 2? Otherwise it's going to be a PITA for you to constantly get up there to drag towels across that roof. Lol.

That will be difficult as I can only request a towel of a certain size, what the vendor sends me is up to them! However, I will do my best. So far the twisted weave type towels have been in similar size, same with the high GSM towels.

If I had an unlimited budget I would purchase a towel in every size and test it against similar size and type, but in my limited budget this is what I can test with.

Just a sturdy step ladder that I've used for years and years to dry the roof panels of our vehicles.

I will be doing the video of the drag test on the hood(s). The rest... it is what it is!

Certainly understandable... But I'd just like to state that the Griots PFM has an extra 7" of towel to drag behind if held horizontally, and and extra 10" if held vertically vs. the Big Blue as it stands... Just want to point that out before/just in case any PFM fanboys get their championship champagne celebration started. lol.

My money's on Big Blue baby! lol.
