Microfiber hand test??

You do not need to convince anyone but yourself. There will always be those that have a set opinion.

i realize this. its why i tested the MFs i buy before i used them to see how much pressure it takes to cause a scratch, then stay well below that so i know if its the cloth or some dirt causing a scratch.

The basic statement that all Chinese made towels are garbage (not safe for paint) is just not true.

Funny. I've never noticed any un-contaminated quality towel scratching my paint. Regardless where it came from. But, my paint on my 2 vehicles is what I would consider "normal" - not super soft.

I think a lot of this is hocus-pocus and it comes from one dude one day just noticing scratches or using a contaminated towel that's causing scratches and making the conclusion "that towel is bad"...

I also think a lot more goes into your technique and if the car is surgically clean while you are working on it - than the country of origin of the towel. I've had Korean towels that linked like crazy as well.

I just got a very nice, soft, plush Cobra Jr Gold with my free Synergy pot that is just a super soft awesome towel (seems like an upgrade from previous Golds)...guess what - it says Made in China. Towel is awesome with MF borders & doesn't lint or scratch.

The mg hand test is not that reliable cuz if your hands are dry and chapped then the Mr towel will always stick to the hand

I learn something everytime I come on here, I always believed in the hand test too. I watched a video on youtube where a very well known detailer said it and I guess I thought it was gospel, glad to get correct information.

sometimes i hate the internet.

a while back i posted about an well-known detailer who scammed me big time and damaged my vehicle. however, if you followed his internet presence, you'd possibly mistake him for God.

point is, don't believe everything you hear or see on the web.

hand test. wow.

I agree. Just curious how did you get scammed and your vehicle damaged?

Is it better to use the plush side of mf towel to take wax off car or is the other side better

that depends on who you ask, and what wax you use and what towel you have... lol.

some will say that you should always use plush unless you are polishing by hand, others will say you should remove with the short nap side because the long nap side will be much more difficult to remove wax.

others will say that if you have a good wax that doesn't dry you can do whichever way you want.

personally the wax i use right now is BF midnight sun, and its a super thin application wipe on/wipe off, so either side work perfectly fine to take it off.

but i have had other waxes that once hazed have become more difficult to remove... it's more personal choice as to what works best for your application, temperature, type of wax, and towels.

Thanks for the info. Also when I do a rinse free wash I use the short nap side to do the windows and then when I do the paint I use the plush. Does it matter anyways? I guess if it makes me feel better then its not taboo

doesn't matter, imo. as long as the towel is clean and your solution concentration is right.

i use these old Supreme 530s for my ONR or ONRW&W washes. they have a shorter pile on one side...and i use every side for everything. i fold the towel in quarters so i essentially have eight sides to use. no difference between effectiveness or safety re: sides for me.

EDIT: i should say that i now use different towels which are more plush and equal nap on both sides, but i have no problem still using the 530s which have a short side.

I also have a different technique of folding mf towel into 16ths and even splitting the 16ths in half and holding a smaller portion in my hand while I do a rinse free wash. Maybe I m a little too tedious

Don't rub your hand too many times on the MF or it will get aroused...

Wait! Now I know why they grab your hand...

if you fold it 20 times, you'll have a microfiber as tall as everest!

The whole idea behind more fibers per square inch with any material is that there will be more surface area to grad stuff. I think junk man misinformed(or was misinformed) when he made a statement about MFs not being split weave if they grabbed at your hand when rubbed against it.

just don't tell him that. he defended his point so much with all this talk of "experience" that i'm afraid to show him the email from the rag company themselves saying the opposite of what he said on his video... he might go nuclear

I'm sure he will eventually see a thread like this and will learn the truth. Plus, he seems to be an opened minded kind of guy. So, no worries.:)
