Microfiber pads - your experience?

Looking to add some microfiber or foamed wool pads to the arsenal for my supa beast.

Going nuts reading all this, need assistance in making a decision lol.

I run lc hybrid force orange and white with mostly menz 400/3500.

Looking to have a backup incase i ever need heavier cut...mainly to chase after a rotory/wool pad after a paint job, and finish out

I like microfiber pads because they are so easy to blow and clean out with compressed air. Then I used the Rupes Blue Coarse Wool and I fell in love. Great correction ability and they finish down really nicely, much better correction and finish than a corresponding microfiber cutting pad. Then I bought the Rupes Yellow Medium Wool and I haven’t used them enough to really know what they’re capable of yet but they correct well and finish well enough to be done on some paints at least. The Rupes Yellow Wool may be a good pad for a one-step but I haven’t tried that yet.

Thanks for the info! And holy shat...they better be good for 22.99 a pad! I was fixin to buy 6 but ehh not those at that price right now.

I do like microfiber but have only used them in the megs d300/d301 and micro pad combo on their mt300 da...was a great system but i haven't used it since i got my flex

What polisher are you using?

Just wanted to update my thread now that I've used the Rupes medium wool pad. They cut really well! So much so that the original combo I was planning to use on this paint (pairing the pad with Tac system refinish ultra on alpine white BMW paint) was actually too aggressive and leaving a haze! I switched to Essence and I have to say it was a really good combo!

The wool seems to have more initial bite than foam but still finishes down very well. With this combo I would say I got at least 80% correction along with a ton of gloss and no haze! I was satisfied enough with the finish that I left it as is. Definitely I would use these pads again. I've done corrections on other alpine white BMWs using orange or yellow Lake Country foam pads and have to say at least for this application I much prefer the wool.

Also this is the first time using my Dewalt cordless polisher for a full correction. I love the polisher itself and cordless in general is amazing. Not having to worry about throwing a cord over your shoulder or your cord getting stuck on a tire as you walk around the other side of the car is awesome. If I was working in a shop doing corrections all day I'd probably stick with a corded polisher, but for someone like myself who does a handful of cars a year I would never go back.

One thing about the Rupes Yellow Wool that may not have been mentioned is they are a sheer joy to use

They follow contours on swoopy body panels like no other correcting or polishing pad I have ever used

They feel like the softest application pads

They just flow...

There are two things I'm not a fan of with any wool pad, and that is:
1. The ride.
2. When the fibers break down.

With the longer fiber pads, they feel too "airy" or "pillow-y" for my liking. The short fiber (Rupes Coarse, LC Thin Purple Foamed Wool) are a bit grabby for me.

I ended up giving away my Buff and Shine wool cutting pads to the shop. I didn't find them to cut as much as I was hoping. I'd often revert back to the Uro-Fiber when using them, to get the cut I needed.

I still really like the LC microfiber cutting pads, but the foam interface in the Uro-Fiber has just the right amount of give and resistance for me personally. Who knows, I may just continue with the Uro-Fiber for their flexibility, cut/finish, feel and durability.

Uro's work good on the supa beast? Or should i try the lc micros??

Yes, hard pill to swallow and I initially only bought a couple of the Rupes Blue Coarse Wool but after seeing how much time they save, I bought more as well as the Yellow Wool. And definitely waited for the 25% off sale.

Good points. I had to change my workflow to work with the Rupes wool as they are different than foam or even standard microfiber pads (Meguiars, Griots); can’t run as long or take as many passes but ultimately, they save time so I got used to them.

I use the Uro-Fiber on the 3401 without complaints. The softer interface compared to the LC's might make for a nicer ride. I'll have to try our LC micro cutters at the shop next week to know which I like better.

Once they break in they're pretty nice.

I do love the way the blue wool pairs with DA Coarse to remove tough defects.

I'm keeping these in stock too. I actually really like the idea of the new foam and wool pad line up. I like that they offers pads for tools from the 7" 21 to the 1' nano.

And to clarify, I definitely don't dislike those wool pads. Just some characteristics that I wasn't thrilled with.

One thing I really like about the wool over the Rupes Microfiber is that:
1. Wool is available for the Nano sizes.
2. The wool pads are closer in weight to the foam, where the Rupes Microfiber pads have a more dense substrate, which can deliver quite a bit of vibration.

I use the micro fiber pads on almost all my light color 1 steps, they cut faster and finish out good enough for a one step. I don’t use the 3D One anymore because sometimes the wipe off is frustrating, I like Megs D300, Sonax Cut and Finish and Optimum Polish or Compound. Just make sure to brush or use an air compressor to fluff up the fibers or you’ll see a drop off in cutting.

Yeah i decided to give up on 3D one personally. Maybe they will address the wipeoff in the future.

I took a break from 3D ONE for a bit because of the wipe off, but I often found myself wishing I had it with me when I didn't have it.

I usually start with four drops, and that can be a goofy removal. But after I complete the section, I brush up the pad, and tap the next section to see now much moisture I have on the pad. If I have enough, I don't even reload, and continue my process. This makes for a swift traverse around the vehicle, less product use, easier pad cleaning, and most important to me, super easy wipe off.

I see, they really should work on the wipeoff. Even inside when i practiced on test panels it was noticeably more effort then sonax perfect finish and cutmax.

I'm going back to perfect finish. Not the same level of cut but more then good enough for my needs. If i need something extra i have cutmax which i find simple to work with as well. I've grown tried of 3D One. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone frankly anymore. The new rupes DA fine has a very nice wipeoff too but i have to pick up one of gyeon's empty polish bottles because the rupes dispenser is horrible, all that bing and they couldn't even put a decent cap on the bottle...

I like the Sonax a lot too. I could see myself using them again at some point.- without Perfect Finish though. Too dusty. NP 03-06 performed better for me.

Because we do a lot of PPF, and tint, I like the virtually dustless nature of the 3D line up.

I agree on the Rupee bottles. The old versions were way nicer. My favorite are the Menzerna. Perfect little dots every time!

I only had minor issues with perfect finish getting dusty, but i do rather short sets. Its doesn't have a big working time IME and neither did rupes DA fine actually. Not in my relatively limited experience anyhow - mostly outside in mild to cool weather. I used perfect finish more then any other polish with 3D one being a very close 2nd.

If someone could merge PF and 3D One - i love the smell - i would be onboard. :D

Yeah, the Rupes DA Fine has a pretty short window. I Got better work time out of Keramik. I kind of miss the old Rupes polishes more than I thought I would.

Yeah, 3D ONE smells pretty nice. One, Speed, Poxy, AAT502, and AAT505 all smell great. ACA500 smells nice, but it's way too strong. AAT501 is just gross lol! Works great, and initially smells ok, but it just won't come out of my pads, and that dull lingering odor reminds me of a wet dog covered in puke.

I STILL haven't gotten to use the new G8 and G9 yet but still slowly acquiring a variety of pads to try. Just got some Jescar microfiber pads to try alongside their foam ones I ordered. I decided to get the microfiber pads after reading up here and elsewhere regarding their ability to cut.
