OK, got a strange problem. Polished with menzernas, washed three times over a week, waxed with Petes 53 carnuba. About 30 hours later, I dusted it with a car duster with 0 pressure, just skimming the fibers across the paint. I then took Mothers showtime instant detailer a few hours later with my Cobra Jr yellow MF and wiped it down. It looked great in the shade. I then pulled back into the sun to get a good look and it looked like I had a million tiny scratches all going the same direction. First reaction was to crap my pants and then blame the towel. I grabbed a different bottle of the same spray and tried again and noticed that the direction I am rubbing is the direction of the "scratches", which are obviously not scratches. It looks like some kind of oily residue from somewhere. I the grabbed a blue MF from Chem guys and tried that and it did the same thing. I am using Chem guys MF rejuvinator in my washing machine when I wash them and that is the only thing I wash at the time.

Any ideas on what the hell this is? I ran out of my Meguiars QD, and the mothers came with a clay bar I got a while back. The other bottle was given to me.

Could it be soap residue from previous loads in my washing machine? How about a fabric softener? I don't use it, but I got the washing machine used from someone who did (that liquid stuff you pour in. I have had the washing machine for about 5 months, so I figure it was gone by now. There was none in the machine when I got it. I emptied the resovoir.

So, ideas?

Do you have a different detailer spray to try?

And if not do you have any diluted isopropyl alcohol to use to try and remove the greasy residue. While it is possible that it is something in your MF towel it's not terribly likely.

I do not right now. Is there an OTC one that I can run out and get that is pretty good?

Can I use IPA diluted to clean over a wax? I figured it would take the wax off. Is that not true?

Could it be the car duster that left the oily smear? I wouldn't think the Mother's detailer would be to blame. Walmart carries the Meg's QD if you want to try that again, & Pep Boys carries a prewax cleanser if you don't want to use the IPA.

I know when I went to dry my car with brand new towels from Sams club it left a an oily substance on my car and windows. I know wash all my towels before I ever use them.
