Mid-Engine C8 Corvette

It's really an ingenious way to do it. You achieve AWD without having to connect the (gas) powertrain to all four wheels. No transfer cases, additional driveshafts, etc.

It truly is. In the case of the NSX, Acura is going one step further by mounting individual electric motors for each front wheel which allows them to vector thrust to the appropriate wheel pretty much at will. I don't think BMW, Porsche or McClaren are attempting that right now.

I guess you guys didn't follow the further links from that article, they say that ultimately they expect the engine to be a DOHC V-8, and that a hybrid version is expected with the (electric) motor powering the front wheels.

Initially yes ... but as I tried to share and perhaps should elaborate is that the 7.0 liter (C6 / Z06) 427 is now gone and soon smaller more sophisticated engines will need to be used to meet the corporate CAFE standard. This will be the hardest nut for Chevy to crack as the Vette is now synonymous to some as Having a V8.

It will be amazing to see how compact a V8 GM will offer before removing cylinders. They can now check off superchargers and "might" soon revisit turbocharging. With trucks making the biggest return for GM, it's not hard to see what may have to happen with all other models to meet the more stringent gas standard.

No master the outcome I'll want one in black.
