Well, my lawn mower of 7 years finally gave up the ghost this week. So I took advantage of a memorial day sale at a local Ma n' Pa hardware store and picked up this little beauty:



That's a HPP216HVA, a push only mower made by Honda. it's got all the little bells and whistles of some of the more expensive Honda mowers, without the self propelled nonsense. I hate walk behind, personal pace, etc. drive driven push mowers. Just give me a quality push mower without extra crap that is liable to break.

Anyway, it's been raining like all get out in DFW for a month. A really weird spring for us.

I decided to do something I've never done. I detailed my brand new lawnmower.


I washed the mower, new from the box, with Megs Express Wash D114. That's right, I rinseless washed a lawnmower.

All plastics, muffler, hoses, tires, and aluminum got coated with Carpro Dlux, and the deck and handle got coated with Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Surface Coating.

My wife walked out into the garage, saw what I was doing, and just shook her head and walked back inside.

I might need help. Might. Anybody got some spare 303 fabric guard for the bag?
 
Had a similar moment when I was caught cleaning the tub with buffer scrub brush then got a look of deep concern when I told everyone to not touch the counter, klasse is still curing.

LOL, I've also buffed the gel coat on our poured marble counter tops in the master bathroom and put Klasse on as well. It smelled terrible for about 24 hours in there. Wife wasn't too terribly thrilled then, either.

Bet the women weren't mad when anything liquid beaded right up for a year afterwards!! Damp cloth is all it took.
 
Great mower.....cuts well and sips gas. I detailed a tiller before putting it on craigslist. Fella bought it for full asking price!

I just remembered, I forgot to coat the underside of the deck, BRB...

That is what I had read of the reviews as well. The only knock I really saw was that the newer Honda mowers won't allow the attachment for fine leaf shredding like the older mowers, I haven't researched that deeply into it though, as I never use the mower for that. I figure acorns can't be good for the blades or crankshaft long term, so everything gets cleaned up by hand.

That was a separate project over spring break. I used a McCullough steamer to clean all the tile in the house. Our entire master bath floor and the shower enclosure is tile. After I cleaned it on hand and knees, I sealed it with stone sealant. If anyone thinks claims on car coatings are out of whack, you should read a bottle of stone sealant. The one I bought claimed 20 years!

Edit: that part number was way off that I posted earlier.

It's HRR216PKA, think I got some of the model numbers of my washing machine mixed up in there (different story there).
 
That's weird I don't see anything wrong with that.

I really like finding things to use my detailing products for that are not exactly automotive related.
 
I use DG 105 in my sink. Makes cleaning toothpaste and hair from shaving rinse it super easily.
 
I could be wrong, but I think I see a couple of "opportunities" on that Radio Flyer, too!

HAHAHA, that's been done already my man! Daddy put a coat of PB natty blue on that for his little girl. It's a garage queen, LOL.
 
keeping a clean mower is not a bad idea! easier to diagnose issues, runs cooler, etc.

here are some pics from several years ago when i added an additional inline fuel filter on my Honda mower. it was seven years old, at least, in these pics.

used it yesterday - it has had its fair share of issues over the last decade but it gets used a whole bunch and i have a lot of lawn, so, i'm not mad. i wouldn't trade it for anything. when the blade is sharp, that double blade deal works really well.

when i bring it in for anything that i can't or don't want to do myself, the guys always trip on how clean it is. i believe that because it's so clean, they take extra care with it. maybe i'm nuts.

keep it up, man!

That's a very familiar response.

Did it include the rolling of the eyes? :rolleyes: That's generally included in the responses I get.

And I just finished working on my 30 year old Rototiller. Pulled the engine, changed the oil and spark plug, cleaned the filter, polished and waxed the outside sheet metal on the Briggs and Stratton.
Pressure washed the blades and blade housing (full of stuck on dirt clods), then polished all the powder coat and finally put on a coat of wax. Changed the oil in the gearbox and finally reassembled it all.

All the thanks you get is being told to take off those filthy clothes on the back porch. :bat:

"Don't you dare track any of that filth into my clean house" :eek:
 
Lol, yes it included roll and an audible sigh.

She did mention later that her father insisted on washing the riding mower after every usage, which I typically do with the push mower. I figured that coating it might make the clean up go that much faster.
