Mike:

I've of coursed watched your Show Car Garage wash video that you washed the Mini Cooper in as well as read on the forums some of your washing tips.

However, in that video, the Cooper was already pretty clean. This has been the case with my Civic for over 2 years. However, lately, there's been a lot of rain and I've had less time for washes so yesterday, my car was actually pretty dirty in the lower areas. I noticed that simply running the mitt over the area once did not get rid of the dirt. I actually didn't notice this until I was working on the paint with the buffer so at that point, I used QD and clay to carefully lift some of the left-over dirt off.

In this circumstance, would you recommend going over with the mitt a few more times, pressing harder, or some other solution? Obviously, I don't want to swirl up my finish, but then again, that dirt does need to come off and I know that I could remove minor swirls with SwirlX or a similar product.

Perhaps I've missed an article or video on dirtier cars? If not, then here's a new topic!!! Thanks Mike! :)

Great questions!

When we did that video, the premise was about taking care of a car that is already in great shape and how to wash it without instilling swirls.

It's possible that cars in really great shape get really dirty... but that wasn't the case with the video we made at that time... the owner Richard Lin was as much a fanatic about keeping his car pristine and clean as anyone anywhere...

Lots of ideas I could type out but it's EOD, so I'll check out this thread tomorrow...

That's the same thing I was thinking when I watched the video some time ago. As a matter of fact all of the videos show cars that are already in pretty much perfect shape. Mike, I would like to see you start doing videos with cars that REALLY need the work done them and not something that's already spotless. I think this would be better for the real world of detailing.
