Mike, what pad do you use with your AIO products?

Hey Mike,

I've asked this question around on the forums and gotten a fairly similar answer, but I wanted to ask what you do. I tried calling you guys today, but I think ya'll were busy with the Cars & Coffee so I couldn't hear back... I figured I ask here. I'm only 30 mins away from you guys, so I hope to make it to the next cars & coffee. Looks like you actually showcased the Mckee's 37 360 AIO today and I missed it! Would have been great to ask you my questions there.

People seem to be using the Lake Country pads and they use the Orange pads. Some use CCS and some use Hybrid. I can't really figure out the difference between the two. I would think both work about the same.

What do you recommend? I can't tell from the pictures, but I think you have a MF orange pad on that PC7424 from today's cars & coffee show.

I know it always depends on the car, and that kia you did today was supposedly pretty bad, but I guess I'm asking about that car that gets neglected through speedy car washes that you see everywhere.

I'm thinking Lake Country Hybrid Orange. I have a Flex 3401, so I would be using a 6.5 pad.

If you ever need or get stuck on something I'm 15 minutes from you and will gladly steer you in the right direction,not a problem.Im everywhere and mobile serving Jupiter to vero.
 
Im not Mike but I will try and help you (hes a pretty busy guy but sometimes gets on here and advises)

There is no one answer to your question. Im sure he does a test spot and goes from what he sees in the results. As a general rule of thumb I would say most times ANY lake country Orange, Yellow, Pink, or Green would be a good starting point. Those are not in any type of order. They are all in the light cutting - medium polishing range which is a good choice for XMT/Mckees 360.

agreed,that's why I offered my advice to him seeing the cars in person.mike is a super busy guy,but still has the time somehow to help detailing enthusiast,he is a genuine very nice guy.I got stuck on a very rare problem and he had a solution within minutes.
 
Thanks guys. I know he's very busy. I sometimes don't understand how he can post his detailed articles and posts here on top of everything he does at the shop!!! I wish I went to the cars & coffee meet today because I could have asked him in person! :D

I guess I'm trying to justify if the added cost of a hybrid pad is worth it vs the CCS. I would think it would do more correcting with a fully flat pad

Well we have 4 cars here. But the 1st one I do will be a '11 Benz CL550 without the crazy ceraclear coat.

Other cars that will probably see this would be a '15 Pathfinder and a '14 Volt.

Also how many pads you guys use on a vehicle? I was going to buy the 6 pack, so I will probably combine a few
 
On the Benz microfiber cutting pad with 205 usually cleans up the paint pretty good.But hard to say what pads and products work the best without a test spot.we have done a lot of cars at autogeek years ago,and the standard on pretty much all of them were pinnacle advanced swirl remover and pinnacle polish.orange foam for compound and red for polish.But pads and products are now changed since then.But that would work on a lot of paint finishes on today's paint systems with great results.

Yep. it's like asking what car is best for me... Well... you gotta test drive them...

I was looking today and it's very hard to find flaw in the paint. with a bright led light, you can see some slight swirl marks from improper washing, but honestly they're so shallow, I don't think I will remove what I have. When it's sunny here again one of these days, I'll try to take a pic. I think me using a AIO on it will really just be the protection I put on it and maybe very little correcting since it's not as bad as I thought.

will the white generally finish better compared to an orange?

I guess white prioritizes finish and orange prioritizes finish

Maybe I'll get 2 x white, 2 x orange and 1x green and 1 x black. lol

I do have some Adam's pads too. I'm sure those will do me some good too....
 
I use Green pads for AIO products like HDSpeed. Works great. If you need a bit more cut a light to medium cutting pad like an orange would work well too.
 
I used an orange pad with HD Speed. It was not a super aggressive combination and finished perfect with a light final section pass - but I probably didn't even need to do that.

Yes, in general white will finish better than the orange.

The black pad uses it's ability to withstand pressure needed for final polishing as one of it's key features. You can apply some pressure to work the cleaners and/or abrasives into the finish. The foam itself has no real inherent cut.

For the most part I use Meguiar's M66, and get the best results with the white CCS if there are a lot of swirls. If not I use the black.

I'd use a white with HDSpeed on that. Personally. My Benz had worse swirls and I used an orange with HDSpeed. Came out around 90% correction. Yours don't look too bad at all, but could be the angle. Try a test spot with a white pad and your product, see how it works, and then move to an orange if need be.
