Hi

I rally can not get on with micrifiber cutting pads using a 21mm throw da. I tried them 1st on a black gallardo, i just couldnt get ANY cut, pads instantly going from fluffy to hard shiny matted mess. I tryed them again today on a newish whiite VW, again they just clog up after 1 pass. Before i give up on them i thought id ask as i know people love them.

Before i bring the rotary and wool pads out of retirement how do the LC foamed wool pads via da compaire

Re: Microfiber cutting pads

I haven't tried mf pads yet (but plan to this spring). But my Audi's paint laughed at my attempts with M101 and any of my foam (hydrotech and thinpro). I picked up some LC foamed wool and got some great results. But they do clog up a bit so I have to rotate them sooner than usual.

Re: Microfiber cutting pads

I don't have an answer for you but it may help to what brand and style microfiber pad you were using and the compound you were using with it.

Re: Microfiber cutting pads

^^^ Agreed. I've used the Megs MF DA system & it worked fine. Your technique may have something to do with the results too.

You posted this thread twice & this is the one that has replies so I spoke here instead of the other one.

Hi carpmadjohn,

I merged your two identical threads into one thread.

Normal and good forum netiquette is to start only one thread per topic. Posting multiple threads for the same topic causes confusion as you have nice people on our forum answering in one thread only to later find your duplicate thread and then what?

As for your questions...

Just to share some history... it was Meguiar's that introduced the microfiber pad to the car detailing world and when they did this it was for the purpose of changing the PRODUCTION DETAILING industry away from using rotary buffers and swirling out paint to dual action polishers to avoid holograms, swirls and burn-throughs.

To make up for the power difference between a rotary and a free spinning dual action polisher like the Meguiar's G100 and Meguiar's MT300 (which were the tools Meguiar's included and intended for people to use with the microfiber pads system), they used FIBER for the pad because FIBERS are a form of ABRASIVE.

And this is why when buffing on some paints with microfiber pads you get micro-marring and it's because the fibers are marring or SCRATCHING the paint.

So keep the above history in mind when deciding up what you want to do when it comes to machine polishing paint.

My recommendation, and it's consistent for this topic since Autogeek starting carrying the RUPES brand of products is,

If you're going to go with RUPES then go with the entire RUPES system BECAUE it's a system.

This means use RUPES tools with RUPES pads and products.

ONCE you become an EXPERT with the RUPES system THEN experiment with other pads and products.

Also read my article here, (I just shared this all over the Facebook world)

The Air Test - Using NON RUPES pads on RUPES Polishers

Also, get my book, it will completely flatten out the learning curve to using the RUPES paint polishing system.

I also show the Air Test on page 7 of the book.

I can't remember using the Purple Foamed Wool pad or PFW with a long stroke orbital polisher but it's not going to work very well.

What works well when using a FIBER pad on any free spinning orbital polisher is SHORT fibers. The PFW pads have LONG fibers and when placed on a free spinning orbital the fibers just wiggle around.

My guess is these pads won't rotate well on RUPES tools either and you MUST have pad rotation to remove defects although once in a while I see some paint polishing gurus try to argue that you don't need pad rotation which is funny.

While the below videos are for the Meguiar's Microfiber DA Correction system that we shot here for Meguiar's, there's LOTS of information in them that is still just as accurate today as it was when we made the videos.

The tips and techniques will help you to use microfiber pads on an free spinning tools.

If it were me?

I'd get the RUPES foam pads and RUPES products and go that route. Their system works great as I've documented in my Competition Ready Detailing Classes. (I have more documented before, during and after pictures of RUPES detailing classes than anyone and more in the works)

Then in you need more cutting or faster cutting, get out your rotary buffer or upgrade to the FLEX PE14 rotary polisher. It's lightweight, quiet and powerful.

Hey Mike

I dont know how the 2 threads gat started, maybe when i tryed to edic the typo in the title!

I used the rupes pads and polishes i just needed more cut, the blue pads simply were not getting it. I simply ca not get the microfiber pads right, instead of the fibers being free to move thus enabeling them to cut the paint they simply and extreamly quickly end up as on big shiny matted disk! Maybe im using to much speed and pressure so ill try again.

As for the LC foamed woll, i was under the impression they did amversion just for the DA with a short pile.

If it dont get it right this ti e i guess il, have to get the wool pads and rotary out
