Minor damage to my '04 Accord - Would you fix this?

My 2004 Accord V6 EX-L has 147,000. Few weeks ago I was driving along on the freeway when the car in front of me swerved quickly to avoid a chunk of truck tire in the middle of the lane. He didn't swerve enough - his car hit the tired and flung it up in the air just so that it hit the hood of my car. Of course, I have liability-only on my car, so insurance is no help.

Went to a trusted body shop to get an estimate. For them to repair the hood, and re-paint the hood and the bumper cover, is gonna be $1075.

Would you pay to have the car fixed?

It's my daily driver. I need to keep it for 30 more months until my wife's car is paid off. Other than this damage the car is in very good condition with no other defects at all. I was, in fact, getting ready to go over this vehicle with some compound right before this happened.

Just looking for advice or viewpoints that I haven't considered.

(FYI, KBB for this car in fair condition is $5000, in very good condition it's worth $6400)

I would talk to a few reputable paintless dent repair(PDR) people and see if they could smooth out the hood. Then I would try doing the compounding you were talking about to fix the damage. I would spend the money right now to do more than that considering you are keeping the car for another 30+ months, and anything could happen between now and then.

It doesn't look like any paint is missing. Just find a good PDR guy.

This is where bartering plays a big role..detail for a dent repair!

Or you can find an old hood from a salvage yard lol can't be more than $200

Was thinking about this too. I wonder if it would be possible?

I don't see why not though? Just get a matching color

I have done the salvage yard route twice and been very happy. Each time my hood was under $200 and a pretty close match in color.

Thanks, all, for the replies! Some good ideas. I've got Dent Wizard coming out to check the damage to see if they can repair it. I'm also going to hit up a couple salvage yards for a hood in the same color.
