I've read some mobile detailing business' close for the winter months, and some start detailing out of their garage.

Those that close down for the winter season completely, what do you tell clients when they call? Do you tell them you're closed for the season? How do you handle this situation?

I take on all business, all year, even though I am mostly mobile. I work either out of my home or I have a bigger garage that is heated nearby that I use when the weather is really cold. My call volume is less during the winter but I refuse to turn down work. If they want a detail, I take care of my clients.

I completely agree with you! I forget who wrote the comment that they close down in the cold months, but was wondering if they answered their phone or not.

I am mobile and I've stayed working in the winter months . Unless it below freezing or snowing or something else I can control . Im out here in the cold still doing hand washes and details . Just cause it cold dosent mean cars arent getting dirty . My call volume has slowed down some and some clients I call and check in on time to time . And they are surprised that I'm out in the cold working . But hey its my job can't take a whole season off bills still have to be paid . One plus is that you can layer clothing and shed off clothing if u get hot . In the summer shorts and a tee is what your stuck with and if its hot you sure can't go topless lol.

I offer to do the job in their garage or at my own garage. Have never turned down a job.

I can't get people to call my phone! LOL I haven't done much since the first of the year. I did a one step polish about 2 weeks ago and that was the first time I picked up a buffer since I was in FL the first week of Jan. I haven't even waxed a car since I was in FL.

I justdid a wax job today . Its about 45 degrees here in roanoke va today

I put my equipment away for the winter. no detailing. I just tell people to call a garage if they need something asap. If they can wait till spring hold my number.

How do the people react when you suggest they call another detailer, or wait until spring?

Do you feel you lose new customer future business by closing in winter?
