Mobile Detailing Business - questions

I think for a side business you really shouldn't get a van/tank/power

What do you mean by 2-3 cars a day? What type of services will you be offering?

Most guys (pros/weekend warriors) can't even finish a detail in 1 day. So i'm assuming you'll be doing wash and wash/wax

There are many people who work from a sedan, truck, or wagon and are working on high-end cars throughout the entire week

I have wanted a generator for a while, (i have a wagon so it doesnt even fit) but I don't want a loud one. Getting at a customers house at 7am, cranking a generator, turning on the pressure washer= wayyyyyyyyy to much noise for a simple wash

or a generator+steamer+vacuum. I dont want to disturb/wake anyone in the morning

That is EXACTLY how you bring up asking the customer to use their power! They don't want them disturbed either. I have never had anyone not want me to use their power and a few were impressed that i was considerate enough to ask. All make you look professional....

Reading this makes me really reconsider getting a genny. Not having my own power source is the only thing holding me back right now. I do have my own tank so just asking for an electrical outlet shouldn't be a big deal.

Think of it like this: Someone is willing to pay you a decent amount of money to detail one of their primary investments (vehicle). A few cents of power and water is rarely a concern for someone paying a premium for professional service.

Trust me and everyone who is mobile

customers don't care if you use their water/power. Sure it's nice to have and you can save up for it. But by no means is it a deal breaker

if a customer has a problem with me using their water/power then i really wouldnt want them to be a customer ;)

Carrying all that water around it one reason why I used ONR for mobile washing or a waterless wash product, like the CG POD system with CG EcoSmart.

Fair enough. Will probably just have everything except the generator and expect to use the customer's electric.

This is a good thread. I've been reading technical stuff for the past week, learning a few things, and was going to post questions about pros/cons of mobile vs. a having a building today. Figured I should, at the least, take the time to read through a few threads before doing so.

For the guys wondering about the water and electricity, I will say that a little over two years ago, I took the plunge into carpet cleaning. Hit the forums for that kind of thing, and you'll find a lot of guys who advocate buying expensive truckmounts right off the bat. One of the big reasons is because "Nobody wants you using their water and electricity"...but that's not been my experience. I have to have to separate 20 amp circuits, AND a water hookup...and it's never been a problem over the past two years. If you act like it's normal, then it is, you know?
