Mobile Detailing, lesson learned

While I was working on an SUV this week, the battery died. I really don't think a few hours of open car doors is enough to totally drain a battery, it must have been on its way out anyway, but it was a bit embarrassing none the less. It was already in the clients garage so I hooked it up to a battery tender he had. It sounds like he was able to get it started later that night.

From now on I will be bringing along my portable battery box with jump start cables, lesson learned!

One of my buddies was a remote car starter/stereo installer for years and he always hooked up a battery charger to every car they worked on because of so many problems with batteries going dead.

So your idea to bring a jumper box along is a good one for sure.
 
LOL, I did my girlfriends sisters car while on vacation in AZ, packed a Flex and all my goodies and got the outside done one day, started on the inside the next morning, she went to run to the store, not even a "click" and I felt like a turd. I feel your pain.
 
Most vehicles that a nob near the headlight switch that allows you to turn off all interior cabin lights. Use it well!
 
I had that happen once and, like you, used my battery tender. When the client came i completely disclosed the dead battery and told him what i did to rectify. If i was the customer i would want to know i might have a weak battery.

It started up fine when he came to pick it up and then took it in to have his battery checked soon after. Sure enough they suggested replacing it and he did. The next time i saw him he told me he appreciated me telling him about it and added "it was a good thing it happened at my detailer with a battery tender".

2 lessons learned...

Expect a battery here and there to die on you...spend the $80 at Walmart!

Disclose it truthfully to the customer.
 
Yes art, that's what he had in his garage. I personally put a ctek on the firebird during the winter, fires right up first shot every time in the spring

I think they are mostly used for vehicles that are used infrequently like Harleys, Boats and Garage Queens.

Yea but every time you open or close the door the light goes on again, just shut the light knob.

Quick question, can't you just remove the negative in the battery???? Problem solved.

Car batteries are designed to give a very powerful short burst of power, not run electrical Equipment for hours. I believe most battery will drain in an hour or two if you leave Inside lights on. Even worst if you turn on the stereo ;)

Many cars have Equipment that needs to be re-programmed if the battery is disconnected, I would not do that if I were you.

You can, but in some vehicles that can erase the pre-sets on the radio, power seats, etc.

It does not in mine (GM), there is a back-up memory
