Moldy Optimum Compound II

I bought 2 gallons of Optimum Compound II a couple of months ago and have only used about 1/2 a gal. I went to refill my bottles today and was surprised to see that the top of the compound had mold all over it. I have noticed that the past few weeks the compound I have in my bottles I store in my mobile van have been kind of liquidy when I go to use them but I just shake them up. I've only opened the gallon container about 2 or 3 times since I bought it so I was shocked to see all the mold. Is this a defective batch or what should I do with it now? Can it still be used or what....? This is my go to compound and I just sold 115 details on Living Social last week so I cannot be without it right now!
 
Could it be the abrasives have risen to the top, or are you sure it's mold (colonies, smell, patchy)?
 
Wow, im curious to know the outcome of this..... Hope this will be taken care of.....and both parties should get to the bottom of this. It seemed the compound is contaminated, we just dont know how and when it got contaminated.... I suggest calling them up for any technical infos and advise before opening up your second gallon.......
 
Yum--Dr. G really needs to do something about this--too many people are having this problem.
 
That is a lot of compound. I am interested in the outcome of what the problem is here.
 
Problem is the product is old. Thats why it has turned to a runny liquid. As for the mold that has eluded me. You can sends an email directly to Chris or Dr.G and the product would be replaced if you send it back. Its happened before.
 
That definitely looks like mold and seems that a lot of people are having this problem.
 
I love the Optimum product line, but they do need to improve their bottles and product shelf life. I had one gallon that went bad last year. Less than 12 months old.

Now I buy them in 32oz, but the darn bottles are so thin, they feel like water ballons with labels that don't stick.

The annoying thing is I have quarts of first-gen Optimum (polish, compound, and hyper compound) that I've had since 2006 that are still fine. It's the recent formulations that seem to be prone to this bio-growth problem.

Mold will grow when moisture is introduced into just about any container. It's never a good idea to store products in a vehicle with the temps fluctuating. It's most likely condensation fed mold. I'm not sure if this is an Optimum issue or just a storage issue, but feel free to contact me via PM for a solution. Also, we changed the formula in March 2011 and I have not had any reports of separation or runny consistency with the new version. That coloring looks like the old version, but that's still not why there's mold in it. If you'd found mold in a new sealed container, that's be an Optimum container issue.
 
I'm not convinced that this is a manufacturing problem. If you click on the JMS ENT. in the top right hand of the flickr page you will see a waterfront property. Mold in the container has to be introduced some how. Just saying. My .02

I've had reports of separation, but this is my forst case of mold. Are you saying this is common?

That's good advice. Always contact the people that can do something about it.

That's definitly mold, but I haven't had other reports of it.

We've had reports of separation with Poli Seal and the last versions of our polishes. The new versions are fine, but we still don't recommend buying products you won't use in a couple of years. There are too many variables to creating long shelf life. You'd have to keep a constant temp and humidity and store it in a lined container that never has moisture or air introduced into it to keep stuff for years.

I don't really care for the new bottles either, but the old spouts were junk.

The new formulations have wetting agents that allow them to work longer and have low/no dusting. We have additives to prevent separation, but like I mentioned earlier the fluctuations in storage conditions can play a hug part. I really think in the OP's case it was probably condensation fed mold, but we'll try to get to the bottom of it when he contacts me directly.

I think the new formulation should have fixed the seperation issue some have had (OP's looks like the original Compound II and not the one we started offering in March 2011). And about the same time, we changed the quart bottles to a new version after complaints about getting the product out. If there was a widespread problem with the new stuff we'd look into lined bottles and you'd likely see a price increase.
 
A simple this is the first time its happened and we will take care of it would have been enough. Not downing the customer to make it his or her fault on a public forum. You just lost a customer in me.
 
Wow that's deep! True optimum consumer here because the products fit my needs.

AS long as there's kool-aid and time all of these vendors will have a never ending line of customers.

I reread my post and couldn't see where that I downed the OP and that certainly wasn't my intention. It shouldn't offend anyone to suggest an alternate theory about what happened. My post was long because I was addressing points the other posters had made.

I've had mold growing in my Optimum Polish II as well, about 6 months after buying it from AG. This happened in both the original 32oz container and the small dispenser bottle that I decanted it to. The product separated as well.

While I do live in a hot humid climate, none of my Meg's compound or polishes that were stored in the same cupboard have experienced mold. No pics as I threw it away immediately, fearing additional cross contamination.

Just a product feedback; I love Optimum products but I'm a bit wary of the liquid polishes now.
 
And the plot thickens. ..Yeah I was probably overreaching earlier. I should be in bed.

Then again I might just be in denial because it is my favorite product line.
