Moldy Optimum Compound II

my new versions of the opt compound 2(4oz) and polish 2 (8oz) bottles i got from a good member here are fine, and the OP's looks like old formula compound 2 as mine is pure white, my polish 2 was a little separated but reconstituted when i gave it a couple shakes, but that's to be expected from shipping. being that its black mold it can grow on non organic surfaces but only really grows when a surface is constantly wet(think leaking shower connection for months on end), so seems like it was either frozen/thawed a time or two and separated and the water in there seperated to the top, or it just separated and it was just left there for a while. anytime you open a bottle your introducing mold spores it's just a fact of life. i think it could have been prevented with shaking of the bottle every so often if your going to do long term storage. i have a habit of doing this as i don't like my detailing product shelf's and products dusty!. i also did not see chris@optimum be rude in any way what soever i just seen him offering another perspective on the situation. that being said optimum always fixes a problem. that's why i love their products

A simple this is the first time its happened and we will take care of it would have been enough. Not downing the customer to make it his or her fault on a public forum. You just lost a customer in me.

what exactly did he say that "downing the customer"?

I read his post and no where did he ever blame the customer.

You obviously think otherwise, but I didn't see any "downing the customer" happening; and I appreciated how Chris took the time to answer the questions and points raised by the other forum members in an informed fashion.

In my experience, the shelf life is not very long with any of the Optimum polishes or compounds that I have bought. I really like their products but I'll only order the smallest bottles of them because I had to toss every quart of Optimum compounds and polishes because they did the same thing sitting around too long.

I had the same issue with my first Poliseal (8oz), but I attributed the mold and separation to the high humidity. Prior to that I had bottles of Polish and Finish go bad (around 6-8 months), any kind of mixing couldn't put it back together.

My current gallon of Poliseal does separate a lot, but can easily be shaken back. I like it enough to hope that it doesn't go bad anytime soon though! :)

I've seen several of you say that you just tossed stuff out, give us a call first and we may be able to get you a replacement or exchange it for another Optimum product. There are limits, but we almost always ere on the customer's side for sure.

THATS IT! thats an outstanding customer service right there, you got me as a customer now, just waiting for the OPT Microfiber system :)

I think the best solution would be for Optimum to send one of everything they make to me in the UK for errrr.... [strike]a freebie[/strike] ......err extensive testing :)

and there you have it, why Optimum reps like Chris are so great, sticking behind their products and customers. While you may have lost a customer from the above post, you have gained one more so you are even again!

Thanks for all the comments guys. My company was featured on Living Social last weekend so this week has been a nightmare work wise for me. I never got the impression from the Opt rep that he was against me in any way. They still have a customer from me and I have a couple of gallons of their stuff in my online shopping cart right now.

The items are stored on the bottom of a shelf in my garage and for what its worth my house is near a lake. But I've only opened this container just a few times since I had it and that was just to pour it into a smaller container which I could use to work with.

I'll be sure to shake my products occasionally I guess. I dont have any more info to provide at this time since I havent talked to the Opt rep yet but will do so today and then will post my results here.

I don't know if this will work but I've stored paint cans upside down for years as it prevents any air leakage or skin from forming. I'm sure it has to do with the paint forming a self-seal of sorts since it is right up against the opening of the can. Obviously, you need to seal the lid carefully to prevent the paint from leaking out when it's stored this way.

Maybe you could store your other gallon upside down to try to prevent this from happening again.

Thank you for the thread. Informative and of concern for me as I reach for their products more often than not. Am awaiting your future posts.

What ever became of this issue?
Anyone still having this problem on in your Optimum supplies?

I offered to replace the two old formula gallons with a single new formula gallon, but never heard back from the OP. He bought the old ones on BOGO for $59.99 and the new forumula is $129.99.

The new formula has been out since March of last year. There are NO reports of the new formula doing this and only a few of the old. It didn't come from the warehouse with mold, but was exposed to it and it grew after opening. Steps were taken with the new to not be succeptable anymore.

Very nice gesture Chris!! :dblthumb2:

In all honesty this thread makes me feel good about the Optimum polishes I just bought, but may not need to use for quite some time. As I bought them to replace other brands of polishes I used to correct both my cars, now they are good I won't need any polish for a while. Reason is, if you had an issue whith any Menzerna, Meg's, or other big brand polish I bet they wouldn't respond and offer a resolution here. Good job Optimum!

Thank you for your definitive response to the question at hand. I feel much better about the product list that I am building now, and will purchase soon. I feel that I can design my routine and processes based on the Optimum product line. I anticipate great results with what I've read these past couple of months. I signed up at your forum, but I can't get the page to fit my screen. Kinda irritating to follow.
